Combine/human government conspiracy?

K, I was thinking about the HL2 storyline and yes its easy to assume that the combine invaded and took over, but what if it was the opposite?. The Combine came to earth, but were employed as a police force by the government. I mean you don't see the Combine and the City 17 personnel every fighting in the bink vids right. Maybe why they are called the "Combine" is because they combined forces with the human government?. Maybe not.


Also, maybe the Combine allied themselves with the humans, but now Gordon discovered a plot where the Combine are attempting a takeover. Or maybe thats what happens in City 17?. They attack the city without warning and the story slowly unravels. Or maybe it was an "alliance" in the fact that the government gave so much of earth to the Combine in a deal to stop further conquest, but now they are betraying such an agreement?. Anyway, those are my ideas so far...

All good. I wonder. Maybe they were a subset of humanity, genetically designed to be the ultimate police force/soldiers (Inspired by the speculation in that other thread.)? Perhaps they decided that they were superior, and started to take over...

Perhaps they're not a subset of homo sapiens, but a hybrid of humans and a different alien species.

Maybe the alien species is relatively more powerful than humans, but can't withstand any ballistic damage. So they steal a few humans, cross-engineer the humans' DNA with the alien's own, and create a warrior with the best of both races. Which reminds me, in HL1, when you go into Xen you see a few other dead scientists wearing HEV suits... Could those scientists be the genetic ancestors of the Combine?

And the HEV suits could have been stolen and reverse-engineered after Gordon's rampage, and used to further augment the Combine's strength, since the Combine suits seem somewhat similar to the HEV's (i.e. when a Combine dies, its suit flatlines like HL's HEV).

I said it once, and I’ll say it again, NEW WORLD ORDER is taking over, people...

The GMAN was working for the NWO, but he found out what they were going to do (sabotage the experiment at Black Mesa to make it look like an accident). So he resigned just before the incident, and when the time came, he hired freeman to stop their diabolical plot.

After the destruction of the nihilanth, the intelligent aliens (alien slaves, alien grunts) were free from the tyranny of his leadership and allied with the Black Mesa survivors.

The portal to Xen could not be shut down, so unintelligent Xenians (Barnacles, Bull squids, head crabs) kept on teleporting to earth, attacking the populace.

With the relentless number of aliens coming through the portal, the President was issued emergency powers to deal with this threat, ordering all alien life to be eradicated, and allow the military unlimited resources to deal with the cleanup, unwittingly creating the combine (Who are commanded by members of the NWO).

Medical researchers created human and alien hybrids based on captured specimens, to help them in their efforts against the Xenians.

Disgusting the human population, the humans form a resistance, commanded by Gordon, Barney, and the G-man, and aided by the intelligent Xenians.

I do worry about possible spoilers from the beta in threads like this, though.
