Given that I am a big fan of Half Life 2 I want to know what are the odds that I will like F.E.A.R.

Half Life -> science fiction, F.E.A.R -> horror.

I don't care if it's like a scary movie as long as its good lol :)

Most people will find F.E.A.R. enjoyable, although there really aren't much of a connection between these two games other than being Sci-Fi FPS.

HL2 is superior to F.E.A.R., all F.E.A.R. has is some cool slow-mo and decent ending. Otherwise it's grinding for an FPS (once the 'cool' factor wears off).

Comparing HL2 to FEAR is like comparing apples to oranges. They're two completely different games, but you can still like both. HL2 is my favorite FPS of all time, and while FEAR isn't nearly THAT good, it's still very excellent. In terms of gameplay, HL2 focuses on... well, it focuses on everything. FEAR has a heavy focus on action, gunfights, AI, etc.

Both are good. I still like HL2 a bit more, but in my opinion FEAR is the best FPS since HL2, so it's all good.

Speaking of, I just bought a thirty two inch widescreen LCD monitor, and sweet Jesus, does HL look pants-splatteringly good on it.

^F*CK YOU :flame:

I mean, I love my 19 inch CRT, but still... ;(

FEAR has quite good AI, they communicate and do some interesting non scripted moves. FEAR's story is told mainly through audio that is played when you download data off a laptop or listen to a phone message. There are a few sequences with characters but much less so (and less interesting) than HL2. The action is pretty constant, the scares are fairly well distributed and there aren't too many of them. The levels in the first half of the game can get pretty boring, it does get interesting near the end though. It's not as long as HL2, around half the length. Try the demo.

Half-life 2 is one of the greatest games of all time So is FEAR in my opinion. Both have very comparable endings. Both have great storys. Both have very good gfx and visuals. Animations are insane in FEAR. FEAR is a instant classic just like HL1/HL2/Deus Ex/F.E.A.R. Plus FEAR has THE best AI EVER!

Thanks for the comments. Rather than starting a new thread, i will ask here, what do you guys think of Far Cry as compared to HL2, F.E.A.R, etc? I thought it was pretty good. The graphics were beautiful. That's like the only video game I have played where the ocean was done right. But I don't hear many people praising that game.

Far Cry ROCKS!
I LOVE Far Cry!

Best game of '04, in my opinion...well...tied with HL2. Which is really good.

One of the most fun games, but not on the level with hl2 and fear. A must have for sure.

Far Cry blew chunks... Far Cry Instincts however, owns all. :D

I liked FarCry in an entertaining, and cartoony distraction sort of way. But it lacked the punch and sheer amazement of an HL2 or FEAR.

Far Cry had some fun battles (AI was ok)
FEAR had awesome battles (AI kicked ass)
HL2 had okay battles (AI was too easy and was exploitable)

Far Cry had a weak story
FEAR had an alright story
HL2 had a boring story

Far Cry had like...15 hours of gameplay for one playthrough
FEAR had like 10 or so
HL2 had like 15 as well but I was bored out of my mind for about 1/3 to 1/2 of it.

Far Cry had a very hard ending
FEAR had a kickass ending
HL2 had a kinda fun but disappointing ending.

The only good thing Far Cry had going for it was basically graphics. Storyline sucked. Battles were only decent.

FEAR has great graphics, amazing battles, interesting story, and just fun as hell.

HL2 has good graphics, fun battles every now and then, great story, and ocassionally fun.

Far Cry AI is comparable to FEARs, it communicates, outflanks you and says cheesey lines, FEAR gets the nod though because the AI and animation work well togther. I found Far Cry more enjoyable to FEAR due to the open layout of missions, you get choose how to approach given sections of island and bases from a distance and you can mark out guys with the binoculars. FEAR is just indoors 98% of the game and although the slow mo has good effects and such it doesn't become an epic masterpiece to me.

HL2>Far Cry>FEAR

Half-life 2 wipes the floor with both FEAR and Far cry. Its probably the greatest game of all time in my book, never had as much fun with a game, ever. Alot of people miss the subtle hints in the gameplay, characters facial expressions and the story at large. Speaking of which, the story is so masterfully told it comes out laughing at Far Cry and FEAR.

FEAR is a very average game in my opinion. Its simply a dull, corridor by corridor shooter that fails to entertain most of the time. The story is ok, nothing special...meh.

Far Cry is great, great fun. The story is pure shite, it contains a chockfull of duff levels and it drags out far to long but there are some levels in there so awesome, buy it anyway. Fort, Treehouse, Rebellion, Boat and Dam. As you can see, all of these levels are outside and outstanding fun.
Shame about everything else.

FEAR has shitty FPS, even though it's a pretty ugly game (no matter what settings). I dont understand that.

FEAR looks great on my 7800 GTX :) Dont say a game looks bad because you cant run it at high settings.

a game released now(well 4 months ago) shouldn't need an uber top of the line card to run well at high setting though

I can run it on high settings, but i get framedrops. Wich i shouldnt, because the game is pretty ugly. The only thing that looks better than HL2 is perhaps the lighting.

Doom 3 looks twice as good as FEAR, and still runs smooth.

Fear looks like Splinter Cell but with better character models. Could have looked twice as good.
