Hi,

I'm trying to buy a powersource, but I'm very confused. I know from my motherboard manual I see that I need a ATX12V. So I go to Newegg, and find this powersupply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103933

Why is the fan on top of the power supply. Is that just for the horizontal computers or does this also work in vertical desktops (as much current powersupply fan has one at the same side as the power plug).

Help please, my powersupply is slowly dying and I'm so confused.

It's not on the top. They photograph it upside down so you can see the fan, makes the image a bit more interesting.

I'm not sure. What case do you have?

I think it'd be ok though.

that psu would suck in air but take it right off the cpu so its like an extra cooling fan and then blow it out of the psu. understand what im saying?

Yep, perfect. I was reading some reviews and finally found one which explained how it deals with air flow.

Thanks all.

Thank you. Just went out and bought one. It is installed and running nicely. Way to many cables came with this thing, and half of them are still unoccupied, but just gives me more incentive to upgrade. But more than that, for this prize and a 1 year warrenty, I'm happy.

And just as an afterthought, I'm really pissed with ATI, as the powercable would simply not come out of my 9800. I had to use a piece of thin wood and a screw driver to get that ****ing thing out. I still have no clue why it got that stuck. I'm amazed the card still works after all the pushing and shoving to get the cable out.

yea that sucks about the card... but with those extra wires do what i did, put them on the other side of the motherboard chasis (under the motherboard practically) saves alot of room and when you need another wire just pull it out

Or you can use plastic-tie, remember those Plastic-tie riot police use? Yeah, those will work fine, tying extra cable together and away.

BTW that PSU is great, yours have two 90mm fans (one in the front and one in the back of the PSU), they only help PSU to cool off, but the one you bought has 1 120mm fan that will do around and over 2000RPM in amazingly quiet mode. It will work as CPU cooler, since it sits close to CPU, will work as case fan since its so huge and fast and will draw huge amount of air, and will also work as PSU cooler. And when you install it, it will face down at MB also nice for cooling PWMIC chip.

Oh! BTW, I forgot to mention: For that fan (Which will come handy. Trust me on this) to work properly; According to your MB, CPU and chipset temperature; you must plug the Fan Control Wire into the secondary (Chassis or second fan connector). A good Motherboard should have minimum of two more fan connectors. That fan will be controlled by the BIOS and when system get little hot fan speed will be raised and if system is cold then vise verse and speed is lowered accordingly. Saves you energy (PSU boosting dummy fan) and unnecessary wear and tear.

I have XION Power-real and PSU fan spins at 800RPM at idle and 1200-1500RPM in games and full load. MB, CPU and PWMIC chip, never pass 40c under load.

Good Luck.
