In the Chapter Highway 17, after Colonel Odessa gives you the RPG to take down the gunship, I wandered around looking for something out of the ordinary. I couldn't find anything so I started to stare at the Vortigaunt for a little bit when he gave me HEV power (around 60 points) then he started talking in a different voice... sounded like a jamaican voice if you ask me. Anyway here's what he said:

We still see you in Black Mesa. Clearly we see you in the Nihilanth's Chamber.

We bear witness to the bright eternity of the Nihilanth's demise. You leap, you fall, we see you flash beyond the barriers.

For a brief time you joined with us. You are one. Between the worlds.

Communion of the vortessence. And that other: a deeper mystery. No deeper than the void itself.

We cannot forget those whose cords you cut. Forgiveness is not ours to bestow.

Unity of purpose, the shattering of common shackles, a single road we tread.

Your song we sing and shall sing for eternity. No matter the consequences of this struggle.

You have brought us grief and jubilation beyond measure.

We are there still, in observance of your final stroke

While our own lay scattered at your feet, you severed the vortal cord that bound the Nihilanth to life, and to us.

That sharp spur of hope has not dulled to this day. For once the lesser Master lay defeated, we knew the greater must also fall in time.

With you beside us, a talisman of victory, the day of freedom draws nigh.

Your bright face obscures your darker mask.

Far distant eyes lookout through yours.

Something secret steers us both. We shall not name it.

We have endured this chafing bonds for eons, yet a single moment of further servitude seems intolerable.

How often have we slipped our yoke, only to find it choking us again.

Let this war end in total victory or our extinction. No further compromise shall we allow.

We take our stand beside you, here, upon this miserable rock.

The way ahead is dark for the moment.

What seems to you a sacrifice is merely, to us, an oscillation. We do not fear the interval of darkness.

We are a tapestry woven of vortessence. It is the same for you only if you would see it.

How many are there in you? Whose hopes and dreams do you encompass?

Our life is worthless unless spent on freedom.

Could you but see the eyes inside your own, the minds in your mind, you would see how much we share.

We are you, Freeman, and you are us.

Interesting stuff, I'm trying to understand what those lines in bold really mean. If anyone has any thoughts, post what you think.

Nihilant fell. Yet, he was just a "slave" as Breen is a slave/lesser Master. So there is this thing/power/whatever that will fall in time.

For once the lesser Master lay defeated, we knew the greater must also fall in time.

Still to come I guess.

We are there still, in observance of your final stroke

Gordon, some guy on Morphine riots Black Mesa, riots Xen, killing xxx Vortigaunts... would you think of him as a "bright, shiny" guy?

Or maybe....

Your bright face obscures your darker mask.

Come on. This one should be easy...

Far distant eyes lookout through yours.

This could actually hint at Gordon not being human. Or at least not being what we think him to be. Him being made.

We are a tapestry woven of vortessence. It is the same for you only if you would see it.

Mankind? Mankind + Alienkind? Even Combine? None of 'em?

How many are there in you? Whose hopes and dreams do you encompass?

This again draws Gordon as some ambigious spirit, a well-doer, messiah, philosophical whatever person. Again with the possibilty being somethin else than or a variation of human.

Could you but see the eyes inside your own, the minds in your mind, you would see how much we share.

-----

So much for that.
There are so many clues yet - what about there is no answer.
And that being the answer.
Get it?
Like "there is no truth." *
Classic paradox.
If there is no truth how can * be true?

Well, there is no answer so don't ask the question.

Near the end, when you're waiting for the lift in the Citadel, Breen says something about Gordon having genes implanted. If so, who created him? Gman? or the benefactors?

"We are there still, in observance of your final stroke" it maybe has something to do with the fabric of time, does he mean Black Mesa is happening at the same time that Gordon's on the road to Nova Prospekt?

Nihilant was a slave to the thing you see Dr. Breen speaking too in the end of the game, something ugly that dissapears quickly

I saw some screenshots where the vortigaunts were cooking, and apparently they had chef hats on or something at one point.

Where was this? I just beat the game and I didn't see any vortigaunts cooking/have chef hats on.

I missed that part I guess, what were his exact words?

When you enter Eli's lab, Mossman takes you down by elevator across a couple of floors, one of these has Vorts cooking :D

when you're in the elevator with Alyx right when you meet Eli for the 1st time you pass though some floors and one has the "chefs" :P

He actually says "what seeds of iconaclysm they planted in you as a child."

Its got nothing to do with bieng created or genes or anything

No it's in the elevator with Dr. Mossman when you arrive to Black Mesa East. The Chef-Vortigaunts are on underground level-2.

I think you mean iconoclast, but still, "they implanted"? maybe it's not literal but it's possible. Why not? after all, Gordon is not an ordinary man.

I think Gordon has been in some way "modified". Perhaps an anal probe ?

I think this whole vortigaunt thing has been covered about a hundred thousand times already accross several forums.

Seems to me that Gordon is not what he appears to be on the surface. Reasons for this: The G-Man's inexplicable presence in Gordan's life, the mention by both Breen and the G-Man of Gordon having a "contract," the whole idea of an MIT grad kicking ass not once, but twice, with no previous training/experience. Plus all these strange comments by the vortigaunts. Oh well, maybe some of it will be explained in the expansion pack.

Remember folks, Breen is amazed that a PHYSICIST is completely owning them. I think he may know more about Gordon's true power than he leads us to believe. Too bad he ended up dead at the end, would've been interesting to get the truth.

His knowledge of this could also explain why he took Gordon over Mossman. Remember that Mossman was up for the same job as Gordon and would've been in the test chamber that day had Gordon not been hired.

Who said he was dead? All we saw was him falling in his protective bubble. Hes more likely to survive than Alyx, or anyone else nearby.

Am I the only one seeing this as a synonym as Gordon's role as the eyes of the game? Think about it. 'How many are there in you?' may be a metaphor for all the players that take control of him. 'Whose hopes and dreams' might be Valve's way of recognizing our (players) own curiosity in how things will progress.

I'm thinking that Valve is going to take this all in a direction similar to what Bungie did with Marathon and Halo (ilovebees.com). Confusing all us truth-seakers at every turn. Either way though, Gordon Freeman is teh sexi.

That makes a lot of sense, good thinking.
All this stuff good mean so many things, I hate having to wait for a finale.

Oh hell, I'm sure Valve knows EXACTLY what they are doing, making us wait for clues. Hell, it's how they promoted the game in the first place. Left us like starving dogs, occasionaly throwing us a tidbit and watch us go insane.

Gabe Newell is just siting in his Gabe Chair, i'm sure, and laughing his ass off at all of us nutcases (I mean, it's not like he's got anything else to do).
