could i play with hdr with my 9600?

hi,
i would like to know please if hdr is supported by an ati 9600 radeon in the episode1, and in which maps is it possible to see it..; i saw it in 'lost coast' on the sea rocks but it didn't work well on my card..

if it dint work well in lost coast i hardly think it will make a difference in EP1. BTW EP1 is slightly more demanding than HL2 & Lost Coast.

The first ATI card that had HDR is the Radeon 9700 - the norm and the mobility one. 9600 does not have it - or if it does, not the official one. Best thing to do in Lost coast to see if you have it is:

1) goto options / video / advanced, and see if the HDR is enabled, and if so change it. If not, then odds are you cannot support it.

2) Goto the commentry in Lost Coast, and click on the first bubble - if at the end it says about not being active, then you know it is not compatable either.

But AFAIK - it came with 9700, not the 9600

i tried and it seems that the video card is compatible with hdr; one of my friend tells me also that the option hdr is enabled in HL2ep1 with a 9600 but he didn't recognize that effect..
maybe the game lets enabling the feature but it's not supported yet?

HDR is supported on an 9600xt. I m not sure about a 9600.

hdr is supported on radeon 9550 and up mabye not well but supported

The current Source HDR is comprised of 2.1 Shaders, which are supported by the ATI Radeon 9XXX series. So yes, the 9600 can run HDR, although you will get low FPS.

Buy the ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 9600, its only like $150 - 200

That is not true, HDR works on any DirectX 9 card.

My 9600 displays HDR just fine. it doesn't even cause much of a drop in fps.

Nope, it's the other way round. They hiked up the textures and a bunch of other stuff for Lost Coast to make it look that much better. Regardless, my 9800 Pro runs Ep1 only very slightly less smoothly than HL2, but Lost Coast stutters and trips throughout the entire experience.
