Yeah, they told the release date in the US would be August 5, although some retailers will have it the 3rd of August. And in Europe August 6 or 13. I think the 6th is for the UK. Anyways it'll be available from the 3rd of August

If you didn't find games like silent hill scary then you won't find Doom 3 any different. I played the alpha in my friend's house and it had the atmosphere but wasn't exactly something that would scare the living jesus out of you. If it's like a 13 year old we are talking about then it might be scary for him/her, though - the monsters are grusome.

Hopefully the final build has more genuine scares instored for us.

Please don't give me that routine...."turn your lights off" and stuff. I tried all that at my friend's home - and we played at around 2:00 am at night. Doom 3 is a game at the end of the day, and it can never take the realism of a movie and actually scare you terribly. This is, of course, just based on an unfinished version so probably there are more scary things in the full version.

you can set your desktop to a website

display properties > desktop tab > customize desktop > web tab

not sure if it will display all the countdown stuff properly, but i think it should work.

Yeah, I still have that HL2 wallpaper for countdown to 30 september 2003....but it's like -259 days left on it.

You can make out frankly whatever you want out of my rant, but I'm just telling you the true hard fact, don't believe me if you want - it's not as scary as most people think. Some people are literally soaring in the air having believes that D3 is the scariest game ever - unfortunately they'll be quite dissapointed. However this is my evalution from an unfinished version, so it depends on how much ID has changed it.

whohoo! - we're down to 17 days now!

hm...games that have scared me include parts of undying, and some of the marine missions in AvP2 - from what i've read D3 should be a notch up from that range - so try those if you need an indication of whether games are capable of scaring you...sadly i've yet to try any of the silent hill series - i'm not really into 3rd person, or camera-view type shooters...

also - the alpha was like 3 very unfinished levels from 2 years ago - there is absolutely no way you can guage the suspense level in the real game from that...i'm hoping i can also not guage my machine's performance on the real game from that 'cause if so i'm ****ed...

Yeah thats a good point, I wonder if doom 3 will be any scarier than say avp2 or sillent hill 2+3? I also played the beta, and it had some atmosphere, but youre right madFive you couldn't get a feeling of scaryness with the unfinished levels. I'm hoping they eliminate that voiceover guy, it's kinda cornball.
