Couple of questions on couple of ideas...

Hi,
i have couple of ideas since HL1, never got to it, but HL2 is just so much better, so i'm wonder about this ideas (hope they weren't debated a lot._.):

1) "2d" mod, sidescroll view

a) similar to snes games like yoshi, mario etc; controlled by gamepad, picking bonuses(weapons,upgrades,'coins'), end bosses; basicaly normal editing and mapping with some custom stuff like fixed side view, fixed shooting direction, 'coins' u pick should have counter, boss ai, weaps etc...
b)soldat-like game; fixed side view, movable crosshair, somewhat changed physics, normal hl/cs weapon pick-ups, normal gamestyle...

Ok, could above be possible, and how hard (time consuming,knowledge-needing) would it be...
or how much of it could it be achieved with as less modification as possible...basicaly share ideas ;)

2) "rpg" stuff

-3rd person view,
-character moves by clicking on terrain with mouse pointer, normal moves like jump, crouch, climbing etc are same as are now, controled by keyboard
-camera is repositioned by holding right mouse button and draging, mousewheel for zoom...
-inventory aka bagpack, hide/open, showing picked items in inventory, description of item by hover over them, dragging item icons around
-avatar menu, where your current equip u wearing is shown, dragging item icons to avatar to equip it...
-map

and how hard would above stuff be? no static/fighting system, just above, since i think that would require getting really code-dirty...

Okay, thats it :) for some of above stuff i always got some bits of solution here and there, but never really asked in-one-go, so there...:rolleyes:


edit: also, is it possible to make HL2 black&white, a.i. taking saturation off, boosting contrast etc...?
 
all this is possible... but you would have to basically scrap most of the engine, and do an overhaul.

The amount of time needed depends on your coding skills.

The sideview thing can be done pretty easily. The only thing im not sure is the gamepad thing.
 
You can make the screen black and white by setting mat_yuv in the console to 1, though I haven't found any use for it.

2d side view can be tried with full normal hl gameplay rite?
You could make sorta antfarm (a.i. that framed glassy thing that lets ya watch ants) and swap L/R buttuns to forward/backward....i know u would be limited but as a test, straight line platform can be made to run around a bit...

and if i remember correctly, pitch/distance etc can be set in console? (i cant test coz for couple of weeks i dun have a comp good enough to play with)

thanks, ill check it out...
usage: i used normal HL1 texs that i desaturated and used them in this mini sp story i made for HL1 back then; in middle of fight u got these 'flashbacks'(b&w texs maps) about u fighting in another war...in-game u got 'transported' into that flashback, do some fighting or whatever there, than back to 'present'(color)...was really neat effect, no loading, teleport_object to another part of same map, but with b&w texs and hidden from view of 'present' part of map...

second, i did little horror 50's-like HL1 sp map same way, but would be much easier with a simple command...maybe overburning screen with more contrast, but dunno if it is possible...
