hi, i'm a bit of noob when it comes to this kind of stuff but does anyone know how to get the CS:S hands into 3ds max?

Thanks

u need to decompile the .mdl file into .smd files. to do this use cannon fodders mdl decompile tools. do a google search to find the website. now u will have too decompile a weapon model like the m4a1 or something. you will get a reference of the gun and a reference of the hands and a load of animation smd's. to actualy get them into 3dsmax you need to download the plug in for 3dsm but i dont know where you get this.

it is complicated to get the css hands on the hl2 weapons if this is what you intend to do because the hl2 hands are attached to the guns in the same file. so i guess if you deleted the hand polys then you would need to reskin the model and it would get all messy. maybe its easyer in 3dsm though coz xsi seems to suck bad.

ah i see, yeah i've got all the decompiler & plugins etc but when i import the usp there's just shit loads of bones there... confusing :/

your probly importing an animation. make sure you import v_usp_reference or whateva. also for the hands its called hands_reference.smd

ah i see, also when i import the reference file - there's only one side to it? and isn't there any hands in with the reference? all i see is bones :|

the reference is the only file with actual model geometry information in it.
btw crackhead have u checked out the xsi scene files that come with the sdk ? its in sourcesdk or sourcesdk_content i believe ...i think it might have the full models rigged and the guns detached.

oh right. i have check out some of them. my computer is a bit of a mess though. thanks for the tip im sure you are right because some of the scenes i checked out were liek that.

spitfire you are looking in the reference for the gun. the gun has the gun geometry and the bones for the hands. the bones link to the model of the hands called hands_reference. yes there is only one side to the gun to optimise space n stuff. even tho my computer can handle it valve are considerete of the people with lower salarys. lol
