I recently finished Episode 2, such an awesome game.
I especially like driving around in the hotrod. While replaying the helicopter part I remembered seeing gameplay video of that, but the car was different...

Why did Valve cut it from the game? The hotrod is ofcourse cooler, but they could have kept the other car, maybe put it in a map somwhere as a static prop... Has anyone esle noticed something missing from the game?

It wasn't so much "cut," as it was "replaced."

...

Sorry...

Yes. Lots of people have noticed it. There is a search function, you know.

They could have left the old car in but it would have had no purpose and you will get people complaining about why they can't drive it. The reason it was cut was because it was to much like the old buggy in HL2

so glad they had the hotrod instead

Wasn't there supposed to be some sort of propeller/ spinning blade thing on the front originally?

Anyway.. I personally miss G-mans comment that was cut.. "your not supposed to beeee here.. Forget about all of this"

That was just placeholder. It is very old, you can find it from leaked HL2 files. But on full line, he is talking Gordon.

"Cleverly done, Mr. Freeman, but you're not supposed to be here, as a matter of fact, your not. Get back where you belong and forget about all this...until...we meet...agaiiiinnnn"

It's not that HUEG.

Awww.
They could have left the old car in [...]
I'm thinking they could have put it in the garage where the rebel was welding. The jalopy is nice and CitizenTech looking.
Hotrod is cooler? I am sorry.
Ok, it's hotter.
did the car feel that much different to everyone? not me
The hotrod is impossible to flip on it's roof :|, I have tried countless times, I so wanna see the animation Alyx has for climbing out of the car.

Dunno.

I wanted a pickup truck with a Combine MG mounted on the back!

:D

The jalopy would've been ok as an undrivable prop, but I'd take the Hotrod any time. '69 Charger >>>>>>>>>> Some POS welded from random metal parts.

Anyways, I remember Valve claiming that this would have the "largest physics puzzle in the series yet" Whatever happened to that? It can't be the bridge, since that doesn't even rely on the physics engine for the most part.

Maybe it's the grenade jump puzzle :p

Also, here is some cut content:

crowbar.jpg

- Alyx wounded by fall from train in first chapter.
- Lines from the trailers including:
Vort: "This is more than anyone can bare, but... we shall persevere"
Vort: "Our Cause seems hopeless"
Eli: "It's time for us to take back our world"
G-Man: "You shouldn't be here... Forget about all this"
- Squishing Antlion grubs calls Antlions, and associated dialogue (e.g. "Forebear Freeman. We recommend, silence.") [Gameplay vid 1 and 2]
- It seems from the 2006 videos that Lou Gossett Jnr was still the voice of the Vortiguant. (Gameplay vid 1)
- Rocket Launcher wielding Combine Soldiers (Gameplay vid 5)
- Post-human Combine in the Final battle.
- Gunships in the Final Battle (or anywhere for that matter)
- The Jalopy
- A conversation between Alyx and Eli about Mossman's betrayal [GCF]

All in all, there seems to have been very little wasted in Episode 2's development, at least as far as things we have seen. Every map shown in the early trailers has a corresponding area in the final game. Everything that has changed has ended up in the final game, just in a different form. You see different models, functions and details (or lack thereof).

Vort: "This is more than anyone can bare, but... we shall persevere"
Vort: "Our Cause seems hopeless"
I think these are both All-Knowing-Vortigaunt clips.
G-Man: "You shouldn't be here... Forget about all this"
I think- I don't know, I've only seen clips- this is from the HL2 leak. But I'm not 100% sure, and YouTube could have been lying to me :p

Ya, I noticed it too. While I was playing EP2, I was like where is this damn puzzle, I never found it. Then I forgot, but now I remember.

I wanted to hear the vort say that. Everytime I heard it, it sounded like sex :P

As already mentioned, the bridge doesn't even use the physics engine. It's just scripted to move into 3 pre-defined positions depending on the amount and locations of the cars on top it. And we've been pushing cars around since vanilla HL2.
