...Would you be OK with that?

Let me explain.....Lets say back in 98' when HL1 was released it had the HL2 stroyline, characters etc but included nothing that the quake 2 engine couldn't do (Grav gun, physics etc)

But a week from now we were waiting for the HL1 storyline characters etc but with the added factor of the source engine and all that comes with it.

It would be billed as a prequel and you'd read things like:

"You will see with your own eyes the infamous BLACK MESA"

"See the mythical Xen in all it's glory, never before seen"

"This was a time when vordergaunts were your enemy"

"Put yourself in HL history"

Do you get what I mean?

I would have wanted to find out what happens next instead...but it would be okay with me.

I don't know....I haven't slept in ages :(

It made sense in my head but when I was typing I lost it

Made sense to me, and as i said, i think that would be cool, but i like it the way it is

Correction: Half-Life uses the QUAKE engine, not the QUAKE 2 engine. Valve just heavily modded the Quake 1 engine.

I would love to see black mesa in a sourcey new look though(see what I did there:))

i'm sure they licensed both, and incorporated some code from Q2 engine as well eg the radiosity solver. Q1 did not use radiosity to calculate lightmaps, Half-Life did.

it could work, but it doesn't have to because that never happened.

i totally agreewith you!!!..................we are talking about master chief being an oversized fridge right?

well of course I would be excited but not as since there is a big spoiler already that you will end up working for the g-man.

OH NOEZZ, THE GMAN ONZ JOO HOMES!!
Gmans ma bitch :farmer: <-----*PIMP*

Hmmmm yea...i guess... :rolling:

Neat Idea but i like it the way it is way more

if half life 2 never existed and instead half life one were to take its place here in the present and not exist in the past. Yeah that would be pretty cool. But due to creation of Temporal Paradoxes there wouldn't be a half life 2.net and we wouldn't exisit on these forums and thus would not be having this conversation.

but if the laws of science and time did not apply

I'd say that half life 1 would be a fairly rated game, poor AI for today's standards and would be a clone of all the games that were clones of the original half life back when it existed back in the past. But becuase it didn't exist I bet that the half life clones wouldn't exist either don'tcha think? but because the laws of science and time and relativity don't apply here. The only solution is.

*head explodes*

Pehaps he means Half-Life 2 works as a singular entity for players new to the half-life universe, and HL1 could be applied as a prequal to them, which is true i guess.

Exactly lobster, that is what I meant.

How would you like a job as my personal articulator ;)

GMAN IS THE MASTER OF ALL! Bow down fools! He is superior in everyway including big time on coolness!

It wouldn't be bad, it would work, but I prefer it the way it is. The reason is simply that I generally prefer sequels to prequels, story-wise. After all, playing HL2 as a sequel, we can only speculate about the storyline. If HL1 was a prequel, we would already know some things - that Black Mesa does get destroyed, that the Nihilanth does get destroyed, etc. While playing a stand-alone game or a sequel, everything is a surprise. Heck, first time through HL1, even the actual resonance cascade was surprising.

It just seems VERY odd.. Why would Gordon take up a job at Black Mesa after all of this. And... He already knew who the G-man was, or at least more then he did in HL1. It just doesn't seem resonable, even though it would have been quite awesome.

Whats wrong with that :) Wrong spelling I take it?

Me: It would be a prequel so Gordan wouldn't know what was about to happen.

they are talking about HL1 as a prequel to HL2, not as a sequel.

Like Starwars Episode 1 came out after starwars 4, 5, 6, but the things in the movie happen before. Darth Vader doesn't become a little child again;)

I think,it would be cool too, I like prequels, telling how everything started.

btw: first post (after weeks of reading only)

Why all the Star Wars references. Am I the only clueless about Vader and everything else SW related?
