From an article in the next issue of PC Gamer magazine:
"Due to recent obstacles encountered with the source engine, we are not able to fulfill the expectations for Half-Life 2: Episode 2 at the current time. We apologize for the delay of the release date, but we must begin work on rewriting a large portion of the source engine in order for certain game play elements to be implemented into Half-Life 2: Episode 2. We cannot disclose current information about these new game play elements, but we can assure our loyal customers that Half-Life 2: Episode 2 will be well worth the wait. We are expecting the new release date to be somewhere in the range of Q4 of 2007. In order to compensate the public, we will be releasing Ricochet: Source for no charge to owners of Half-Life 2 in place of Half-Life 2: Episode 2’s previous release date.
Once again from all of us at Valve, we apologize for the inconvenience.
