Demoman Bottle Dynamics.

I have a few questions about the Demoman's melee weapon.

1) Does it do slightly more damages when it's broken? I've never seen anyone reach a consensus on this.

2) What determines when the bottle breaks? I used to think it was caused by a crit, but that's not the case. At the beginning of a match or after I respawn, I'll smack the bottle against walls and such to make it break. It seems to randomly do so.

The bottle breaks after a few hits, I think it has some sort of relative amount of HP on it and it takes a random amount of damage from each hit (10HP with 2-4HP worth of damage would mean 3 to 5 hits to wall before it breaks). I have no idea if it really is more efficient that way though.

The bottle will only break when hitting an enemy.

Beating walls and allies won't do anything special.

And it does not enhance the damage either.

Or go into a game and do it yourself. I break the bottle on walls all the time.

I believe it also breaks if you hit it on the corner of a wall.

That's mostly why I do it. But there are many times of panic when I'm just too close to an enemy to use pipe or sticky bombs and I'm forced to use the bottle. It just seems to me that I get more crits and it generally does more damage when it's broken.

Well well, I haven't played as the Demo enough to find out that his bottle actually breaks! I am going to go play right now and try it.

I'm fairly certain it breaks on crits, and doesn't do extra damage when broken.

If it requires a crit to break, then it doesn't happen on every crit. I've been dicking around in the spawn waiting for more players and hit the wall with a crit shot maybe 4 to 5 times before the bottle broke.
