Since I consider you lot to be really intelligent (most of you anyway), I would like your opinions on something. Of course this isn't what I'm going to base my final decision on, but it'll help me because I'm really stumped.

To start things off: I have crooked teeth. Yeah they're pretty crooked. My bottom jaw is also smaller than my top jaw, so they don't align properly, and I don't get a "perfect bite". I went to our orthondontist yesterday and she said that if I wanted a perfect mouth then I should have jaw surgery (where they break the jaw and insert metal plates to make up for the gaps). Following this I would have a full brace put in. I've researched this a bit, so bear with me.

Obviously if I don't want a perfect bite, at least I can sort out my teeth. I have too many, and what would happen is I would have about 3/4 out, and then a full brace put in (or traintracks). There is, however, a few problems.

Now I know this is where you're going to critisize me, since it's not very important at all, but I feel that it's what I seem to be basing my whole thinking around. If I get a traintrack brace put in (with either decision), I won't be able to have anything sugary for over a year, unless I want permanently scarred teeth. I have lots of sugar everyday. I take two sugars in my tea, and I have multiple sweet teeth. I just don't know how long I could last without sugar.

So have any of you had any experiences or friends who have had experience with these things? Please share them :)

it doesnt matter if u have lots of sugar.....

Just carry mouth wash tooth paste / bursh around
i had tracks for 18 months had 3 sugars in my tea......

Well, I had horrible teeth when I was younger. Had braces and retainers and everything, then I got about four wisdom teeth removed because they were growing in sideways. A bit painful at the time. I had glasses too. But as I got contacts and my braces off the summer before my freshman year at high school, it was SOOOO worth it. I was teh sexy, realy.

I can't help you, but I can say that it would be a bad idea to go against your dentist's advice and risk messing up your teeth. You're not gonna get another set.. but I don't know if your dentist was exaggerating, maybe it won't have that much of an effect?

I have 9 teeth on the upper 2 quadrants of my mouth, instead of 8. I'm special.

The ladies like nice teeth, think of the ladies.

Or a freak.

You decide.

Seriously Tr0n, what's with the avatar? I liked your Moonite one a lot better.

But yes, listen to the dentist. They have to rifle through the unholy depths of your mouth and want to improve it so they don't have to look at your gaping maw any more than they have to. I wouldn't. They want this :D , not this :O .

All shall fear my NHS grade metal teeth (I have a lot of fillings :( But I brush much better and drink milk now)

I say give up the sugar. Beleive me, cutting suger out of your diet is an amazing thing, I did it (Getting all I need from decent healthy food now, instead of copius amounts from fizzy drinks) and I feel more energetic than ever before. Its a lasting energy too, not just a rush followed by a crash.

What wrong with my avatar!?It's southern pride! :D

It was time to change anyways...he will make a return tho...in a year or two.

Well having my jaw re-aligned would mean being on liquid food for about 3 weeks after, basically being a spaceman but without the cool 0-gravity.

I was also thinking about the ladeez, but I really do love sugar, and it's part of my staple diet nowadays. Do you think something like splendor (for us lot in the UK) would work? Also my mother has an imperfect bite, and she now has trouble with her jaw because it doesn't fit properly. If she yawns too loudly (and opens her jaw fully) or like bites a hard apple bith her lower jaw, then the shock and vibrations can really damage it so I don't want that happening to me later on in life.

Also, thanks for the feedback. It's really important that I have a nice mouth for when I grow up and start dating, but I don't know if I should have the whole lot done, or if I can live without a perfect bite.

If you do it, carry it all the way though or its a waste.
Personally I had 4 teeth taken out at once for a brace (They said they'd do it two at a time >:() and after the brace for however long, my teeth were perfectly straight. Then came the retainer, which I was just too lazy and apathetic for, ending up hardly ever wearing it. In the end it was all a waste as my teeth went back to how they were. Actually, thats a lie, they were slightly more aligned and straight, but no where near as straight as after the brace.

I don't really care anyway, not like I'm going to be an actor or a model.

Hmm, how very coincidental :) I too have similar problems, my lower jaw is fractionally too small compared to my upper, and I can't get a perfect bite. My orthodonist said they can do surgery to correct it, although he hasn't told me any real details. Just when I see him later this year I guess he'll tell me all this stuff he told you. Cutting out sugar in my diet is gonna be hard, I eat so much shite it's unbelieveable. The thing is, my teeth are fine and perfectly aligned - I had braces for 14 months when I was 11.

Farrow, you feel more energetic without t3h sugar? I thought sugar actually gives you energy.

So you ate sugar when you had your brace in? And your teeth didn't stain?
And yeah I've got a bit of time to think (since it's pretty big), so I won't be decided anytime soon.

SimonomiS, I like your approach of the actor/model thing, but I think that I'm not too pretty anyway, and having a full set of perfect teeth might weigh down any scales to my advantage in the world of love later on. I mean, I don't know how much a perfect bite could affect kissing. I would like to be a good kisser when I get the chance.

Thus proving the UK has bad teeth lol
I drag the average up since throughout my entire dental history 0-18 ( i havn't been to the dentist for a year now i'm 19, i don't need to anyway)
i have had A-1 graded on every tooth (you know those codes they say)
The dentist always used to makes jokes relating me and my brothers super amazing teeth "oh what are you in here for" and stuff.

Never had tooth ache in my life, never had a filling, nothing.
I think it is mainly due to being genetically strong and also paying attention to cleaning my teeth and not opening beer bottles with them e.t.c

I'm curious, does milk really do anything? I drink a jug a week. :|

I haven't visited a dentist in 2 years but everything seems fine.

Noooooooo!!!!!! milk is really bad for you!
(sorry i'm dragging up something from the PETA thread the other day)
Ask a dentist or doctor if milk is good for teeth/bad for you, they are the most likely to know people.

Bleh my teeth used to be fine, until I started drinking cola :( I had one filling, then decided to stop drinking it. Other than that one filling, my teeth are fine :) and I'm hoping they stay that way :P

Cola!!! or should i say causticsodala.

Even drinking that stuff makes me feel like me teeth are being disolved.
Put a dirty 1p or 2p coin in a small amount of fresh cola for an hour and you will see why i don't drink it.

My lack of fizzy/sugary drinks is probably another reason i have good teeth.
Btw don't drink diet cola, that's even worse......unless you like brain tumors and convulsions caused by the aspartame.

Yeah :| It's addictive though. I know how bad it is for me but sometimes I just can't help it :P

Yeah fizzy drinks are one of the worst things to set off tooth rot.

Its combined sugar and acidity is a dentists worst nightmare.

I drank cola regularly when I was young, but I prefer other 'healthier' drinks now.

Got a couple of fillings due to cola and sweet abuse, but they don't really bother me, and my teeth are strong other than that.
