Desperately seeking a harder-level HL2 mod

Please go easy on a noobie headcrab, especially if this question has been asking numerous times before or if I am asking it in entirely the wrong forum section:

Is there a Mod for HL2 that simply makes it a bit harder? I feel this (and the occasional 'empytness' of the world) is its chief drawback.

While I'm about it, what other mods currently exist that anyone here would decribe as 'essential'? The bloom lighting-enhancement mod looks interesting.

Yours, hoping for that tip-over-mod-reason to play this almost-legendary game once again.

the substance mod is very hard,a lil too hard imo,plus some of it just doesnt make sense,ant lion guards lining the route on route canal :rolling: ,also it runs like shit so be prepared to drop your settings

If you want a challenge I suggest playing the game with nothing more than the grav gun, revolver and RPG.

I like the game to actually be hard rather than having to handicap myself in order to make it hard!! HL2's challenge is virtually non existant!
