I can't play Episode Two because it says there's a minimum requirement of directx 8, but I have version 9.. and that's better. Can someone help me out? I also can't play Portal or TF2.

We told you on Steam Chat. Your hardware Direct X level isn't high enough. Episode 2 doesn't support DX7 whereas HL2 and Episode 1 did.

It's an integrated Intel Graphics Card

Open Half Life 2, go to Settings > Video and tell me what it says under hardware Direct X level.

you still need to go in hl2

reinstalling dx9 will do nothing to help you because it has already been said that your video card cannot do anything dx8 and above.

I have the same problem, and so does another perspn here (hl2.net), I think. I've tried a lot of $#!@ and nothing works. And yes I'm positive I have directx 9. And no I won't post my info. I've reinstalled DX9 and updated the softare with no results. I plan to contact Valve.

I think the problem is that you're mixing two separate issues: DirectX version (software) and DirectX version (hardware). You can have DirectX 9 installed but, if your graphic card doesn't support it, then EP2 won't work.

You should take the advice in this forum though, maybe upgrade your computer.. unless that's not your problem.

I found out the dirextx level. I didn't know you wanted me to go to the setting IN the game . The hardware level is 6.0 :|

I'm almost entirely positive that shouldn't have ever played HL2 but... eh, what do I know.

Well, I got the same problem with Portals. I don't get this ehh, I haven't had this problem before I formated my Computer. I'm using Windows Vista and installed DirectX9 - is there a way to uninstall it, so I can install DirectX 8.0. This problem is strange, my card should support DirectX :|.

There's no point in contacting Valve. Buy a new graphics card.

HEY GUESS WHAT. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A DIRECTX8 OR DIRECTX9 OR DIRECTX10 VIDEO CARD, YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO PLAY HALF-LIFE2 AND ITS SEQUELS. It doesn't matter which DirectX version you download, it's all in the hardware. You know, the big rectangle thing on your desk that takes your CD.

Buy a new video card capable of DirectX9. Kthx.
