I was over at a friends yesterday and I sat down for a bit to play Ghost Recon. I was curious if there is a major difference in the Advanced Warfighter for Xbox and the one for 360. Obviously graphics are going to be different but how about AI?

Because to be honest, that was probably one of the worst times I have ever had with a game when it comes to delivering what I thought it was supposed to deliver.

Maybe I had a different impression of what Ghost Recon is but I thought it was supposed to be a little less arcady then most shooters? At least the first game (and so far the best one) was.

I fired the game up, intro was cool and the graphics weren't too bad for the Xbox. But once I immediately ran into enemies I had problems. Here I am, advancing up a street, back to the wall and running from cover to cover. I peak around the corner and three bad guys 75 meters away somehow see me and then proceed to charge. I don't mean a careful advance under fire I mean a dead sprint straight towards me while firing their rifles. So, I duck behind for cover and then peak around again ready to shoot only to find all three of them in my face, less then a meter away. I'm sorry, I didn't know this was medieval advanced warfighter. Maybe if the enemies attach bayonets and use metal shields they'll be able to take over the world. This happens again and again, its like the AI has no idea what cover or hostile fire means. They just sprint towards you or stand there and shoot.

Then I recieve commo that a enemy vehicle is approaching and I can intercept if I choose. Allright, I figure why not. So I sit there and watch as the red diamond starts coming around the corner. All of a sudden my AI teammate sprints towards the enemy as the enemy armored vehicle rounds the corner. I just sit with a half open mouth as my "advanced" buddy continues to run straight towards the vehicle and the vehicle is firing away with its autocannon. He gets hit, but you know, medium caliber rounds don't hurt that bad. My teammate then proceeds to stand in the middle of the road without any cover and toss not one but three grenades at the APC while it just sits there and stares at my squadmate as if it was as surprised as I was. Then the armored vehicle explodes. Because grenades in the future are also anti-armor.

I just turned the game off after that. Now, really if this was Halo I wouldn't care. Because thats the way your supposed to play a FPS. But I was under the impression that Ghost Recon was supposed to be a little more tactical. At least at the same level as CoD. Which really isn't that much of a realistic shooter. But it certainly is more then the game I just played.

Please tell me the 360 version is a lot better so that the last shread of respect I had for the Tom Clancy series isn't gone.

Who knows maybe I just had a bad day. To be honest I have been playing retail RO a lot lately so my expectations of realistic are probably pretty high.

lmao you're funny man.

What is RO? Haven't heard of that.

that's really strange - no complaints of that magnitude from 360 gamers
if anything they complained that the AI was too unfair at times

Sounds like Red Orchestra to me...

Biggest waste of $24.95 evar.

I have heard that the only real way to play the game is on hard (choke points and other level design aspects only come into play on that difficulty), so that might be part of it.

I only play the multiplayer on GRAW.

I'm not even past the first mission yet. This style of gameplay is entirely new to me though. I find that I'm both terrible at ordering my squad and careless when sending them on.

It's going to take a lot more practice to get this game sussed. I guess I find the fact that they all travel together, they need constant looking after and they seem to hate cover (even when I send them to it) frustrating.

Love the multiplayer though. :)

Well, my guess is your guy ran out like a mad man because u did not tell him what to do. Simply having your squad on follow will not work. Infact its not even follow its regroup and should never be used unless u need to quickly get somewhere and u know for a fact they will be no hostiles.

The only time I ever had people run at me or intentionally get close to me was the night mission. Infact... I would say completely the opposite to u and its anoying the fact that on the dark lvls its very easy for the enemy to continue shooting u from distance after they have seen u shoot. I mean they would obviasly see u if u shot as they would see your flash. But they do follow u behind cover sometimes and it gets a little frustrating. But saying that I love it when bullets fly over your head as the effects and shack of your camera are really nice, it makes u feel like you are in a battle much more and you are fighting to stay alive.

Simply put, this game is no walk in the park even for your average gamer. The AI was very good and you will find using grenades brings enemys out of cover. All together the AI is no way super realistic, but its been addapted to a game. Although yes it is semi reaslitc, they have taken messures to make it fun to play with. I think this was a very good choice by the developers. It makes the game easier to play and also a lot more fun. I mean lets face it, if you go for 100% realism you destory a game.

A good example would be the grenades. You can't expect to have a rocket launcher with your 24/7 and u will find grenades are quite effective against blowing up vehicles. Why? Simply because it looks so fricking kewl when you blow them up and also you can compete against armor without been limited to not having a rocket launcher which sometimes u will obviasly forget.

I won't go on anymore. But the way you put what you said you seem to want an uber realistic game thats simply amazing and everyone thinks as they would in a real battle. You my friend need to stop playing games and go join the army. At the end of the day its a game, u buy it for fun. Stop demanding this amazing realism that would only destory the gameplay.

You ever play Operation Flashpoint?

I dunno, Ghost Recon (360) is awesome on Hard (Which is just a term for "Amazing Realism" or even more accurately, "Ow-you-shot-me-I-am-dead mode) It suddenly becomes much much better and tactical. (You have to start waiting for enemies to reload before plugging them full of holes.

You also really appreciate your teammates that much more. Even moreso when they're taken away from you :(

Ghost Recon hasn't been good since the first one, the original Ghost Recon on the PC was amazing, the one for the 360 is nice, but it doesn't feel like you're in a fancy secret squad of elite infantrymen, but a bunch of guys with a lot of ammo and way too much air support

I rented the game and it was ok, but clearly is wasn't a next-gen game.

From what I have read the 360 version is vastly superior. I hope the pc version is more like the original myself.

haha, cooper, that gave me a laugh.

i cannot stand games that try to be realistic but arn't
