I was over at a friends yesterday and I sat down for a bit to play Ghost Recon. I was curious if there is a major difference in the Advanced Warfighter for Xbox and the one for 360. Obviously graphics are going to be different but how about AI?
Because to be honest, that was probably one of the worst times I have ever had with a game when it comes to delivering what I thought it was supposed to deliver.
Maybe I had a different impression of what Ghost Recon is but I thought it was supposed to be a little less arcady then most shooters? At least the first game (and so far the best one) was.
I fired the game up, intro was cool and the graphics weren't too bad for the Xbox. But once I immediately ran into enemies I had problems. Here I am, advancing up a street, back to the wall and running from cover to cover. I peak around the corner and three bad guys 75 meters away somehow see me and then proceed to charge. I don't mean a careful advance under fire I mean a dead sprint straight towards me while firing their rifles. So, I duck behind for cover and then peak around again ready to shoot only to find all three of them in my face, less then a meter away. I'm sorry, I didn't know this was medieval advanced warfighter. Maybe if the enemies attach bayonets and use metal shields they'll be able to take over the world. This happens again and again, its like the AI has no idea what cover or hostile fire means. They just sprint towards you or stand there and shoot.
Then I recieve commo that a enemy vehicle is approaching and I can intercept if I choose. Allright, I figure why not. So I sit there and watch as the red diamond starts coming around the corner. All of a sudden my AI teammate sprints towards the enemy as the enemy armored vehicle rounds the corner. I just sit with a half open mouth as my "advanced" buddy continues to run straight towards the vehicle and the vehicle is firing away with its autocannon. He gets hit, but you know, medium caliber rounds don't hurt that bad. My teammate then proceeds to stand in the middle of the road without any cover and toss not one but three grenades at the APC while it just sits there and stares at my squadmate as if it was as surprised as I was. Then the armored vehicle explodes. Because grenades in the future are also anti-armor.
I just turned the game off after that. Now, really if this was Halo I wouldn't care. Because thats the way your supposed to play a FPS. But I was under the impression that Ghost Recon was supposed to be a little more tactical. At least at the same level as CoD. Which really isn't that much of a realistic shooter. But it certainly is more then the game I just played.
Please tell me the 360 version is a lot better so that the last shread of respect I had for the Tom Clancy series isn't gone.
Who knows maybe I just had a bad day. To be honest I have been playing retail RO a lot lately so my expectations of realistic are probably pretty high.
