I'm roughing out a storyline for a single-player mod that centres around a scientist named Sophie Marx. Dr. Marx is a cryptanalyst/zoologist studying the Combine's written language in order to facilitate easier interception of their communications, etc. Now, playing through HL2 again, I notice that Alyx taps away at Combine consoles without any apparent trouble. Does her little zapstick already have that information in it? Or has the operation of the little device ever been properly established? I want to make sure that my plot isn't superfluous. If it makes a difference, it's not taking place in City 17, nor will it feature any existing canon characters, except perhaps in passing mention. Thanks!
