e3 2004 winners

Well, it wasn't new at all, so I'm not surprised.

:flame: :flame: ;( ;(

Oh well, there's always next year. :P

You never know, Shuzer. Valve has said they aren't going to be pushed into releasing it..

I'll eat my entire wardrobe if HL2 isn't released before next year's E3.

I am not saying it's going to be delayed till 2005, but Valves glossing over the release date and when their summer begins and ends is making me uneasy. I would not be at all surprised if it wasn't released durring the actual summer season known by 99% of of he world. Although, I would be greatly disappointed.

.."VALVE's ... summer begins and ends is making me uneasy." What do you mean? VALVe isn't operating on a Martian calendar here.

Besides, the other guy said there's always next year for HL2 to win an E3 award, so my reply stands.. there's no chance for HL2 to win awards at next year's E3, because HL2 won't be at next year's E3.

All three socks? I think you are a little too confident.

I don't give a crap what other people think about HL2, and those awards mean nothing to me because they are RIGGED I TELL YOU!! THE DEVELOPERS OF THOSE GAMES PAY THIS SITE TO GIVE THEM THE AWARD TO BOOST SALES!!

Wow, that actually might be true now that I think about it...

Well 50% of the world is in the Southern Hemisphere, which immediately means it's impossible for 99% of the world to have the same "actual summer season".

Not to mention even within the Northern Hemisphere different regions consider different months to be summer, due to differences in climate.

In Australia December is the height of the summer season. Here in Ireland it's August.

Okay.. If you want to get technical..

99% of the residents within 100miles of Valve headquarters..

Still, explain what you mean by "VALVe's summer," that one e-mail where they said summer was January 1st - December 31st was a joke response

I reckon if you were to go and carry out several 1000 person surveys in that region and then take an average of the results, you'd find that 99% of residents do not in fact agree on the months in which summer begins and ends.

Ok, now I'm just yanking your chain - but I'm still probably right. ;)

Remember didn't Munro say he was going to buy all of us a copy of HL2 (whoever posted in that thread of course) if it wasn't out by 2005... :)

Yep! So, if it comes out before E3 next year, I get a free copy of HL2 and I don't have to eat my wardrobe :)

Valve's policy of witholding so much info on the game (and being so vague) does not help their case. I'm pretty sure that if Valve just put up a simple HL2 deathmatch booth they would have won best action. The awards are for best presentation, not content.

Valve withholding so much info? What?

They give out way more info than a lot of companies. Look at id.

What I mean by Valve's description of their summer seasons is that they have just simply blew it off and said, "we are aiming for a summer release." And note "aiming", that doesn't mean they will make a summer release..

I still say we'll see it by September at the very latest. I just can't see it taking any longer than that.

I may be wrong - but I'd be surprised.

I am not to hyped up about Half-Life 2, and I am content at the moment with summer school taking up my time. I am really hoping they release the game somtime mid/late July- early August, so I can have a month or so before I start class again in the Fall.

Um.... then why don't you tell me HL2's premise? Or it's weapons? Or it's multiplayer?, Or it's settings? etc.
Yet we already know this info about D3 from magazine interviews.
Valve shows a lot of stuff but they have much more to show than most other games.
Not to mention Valve didn't have a playable version at E3 while Halo2 or D3.

The winners have been posted and HL 2 didn't get a single award!!!

Some one might have said this already, but it's because it didn't have a playable version!
:bonce:

Yes it did... What do you think the Magazines played?

Three levels, early C17, Coastline, and Cemetary.

Yeah,

and to Murray_H, that thread was discussing the nominees. These are the winners.

The awards were sh*t this year, plain and simple. Why? Battle for Middle Earth won best strategy game over Rome: Total War and Halo 2, a console game, won best online multiplayer. I smell the stench of corruption.

YAY JADE EMPIRE WON BEST RPG!!!

I'm just happy for them because Bioware is in the same city as I am.

I don't care if it didn't win this year. Its old. I'm just glad it won last year

Yeah you're right, someone's opinion differs from yours so they must be WRONG!!

.....Grow up little boy......

" Rules and Regulations
In order to be eligible for consideration in the 2004 Game Critics Awards, a game must be on display at the 2004 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, CA, May 12-14, 2004. Games shown off-site and in private meeting rooms are eligible along with those shown publicly on the show floor.

Playable Format
In order to compete, a game be shown in playable format. For the 2004 awards season, playable format is defined as the ability for the judge to manipulate a game in real-time while running on its native platform (i.e. "hands on" gameplay). Games that are only demonstrated on videotape or through screenshots, concept art, rendered movies, pre-scripted (i.e. non-interactive) gameplay sequences, or developer-controlled theater demos are automatically disqualified from consideration in the major award categories. However, non-playable games are still eligible for Special Commendations in Graphics and Sound Design."

Hilarious stuff, a guy who uses size 52 font to stress his point tells someone else to grow up ^^

All im going to say is that Gamescriticsawards.com wouldnt know a good game if it bit them in the arse.

Sims2
Splinter cell
Halo2
donkey kong
LOTR's

I mean FFS 16 players maximum with no changes beyond the ability to hold two weapons and the ability to shoot off a wheel, gets best MP game of E3?

whatever those guys were smoking i want some.

I didn't think HL2 would win anything this year, it doesn't even bother me as i can't see the point in pre-release awards but the LOTR beating TW is just ridiculous, the total war series is incredible and the latest addition has been raved about, LOTR looks like a good but not that good film spin off money maker.

Look at the quote above: the games have to be *playable* to be eligible. Neither HL2 or Rome were.

HL2 wasn't playable last year at it got Best Game of E3
