e3 2004 winners

I don't really care that HL2 didn't win, it won last year, it's just that the wrong games won. I mean, why the hell did Halo 2 get 3 awards? For f*cks sake, what did it show? A CTF match (how 1999 is that?) and you could carry TWO guns, well whoopdee f*cking doo. Since when is that shit award worthy?
I thought the singeplayer demo of 2003 was rather impressive, lots of atmosphere, but the multiplayer was pretty ridiculous. What was special about it? Absolutely NOTHING.

And I'm not even commenting on how LOTR hijacked the award from RTW...

I'll eat my entire wardrobe if HL2 isn't released before next year's E3.

I'll eat my entire wardrobe if you can't find someone that was this confident about the September 03 release date at this time last year......

and we all know how that turned out.

True. But, they've had a year by the projected release date.. so.. even so, I'm confident it'll be out before next year's E3. 99% sure it'll be out this year

At the local gamestop store here yesterday there was a couple watching that video and they just went nuts for how "cool" the rocket launcher was when you shoot it and it follows where your target is pointing......

correct me if i'm wrong but there was a game that's been around for quite a few years that already did that...... ummmm.... oh yeah, half-life?!

The point is that half-life came back in 1998, and except some pc guys - console guys didn't know a jack about it. So most people don't even know what it is, and consoles have pretty much the bigger part of the market share...

Halo is recent - much fresher in memory. More people like it and know about it - so weather you like it or not, face it...that's the truth.

BTW to others - while halo 2's multiplayer wasn't that impressive, you can't deny the fact that ON a MULTIPLAYER map with 16 PLAYERS you have FULLY destructable vehicles from limb to limb with to some extent DESTRUCTABLE environments with BUMP MAPPING comparable to nowaday pc nex-gen games @ 30 FPS, all running on a 3-YEAR OLD COMP is a mighty task which bungie has accomplished.

Most people don't know what it is?! It's like one of the most popular games to come out in the last decade. Not to mention it also came out on the console (although that could have been done better). And as Shuzar would say, "I would eat my entire wardrobe" if this guy didn't know what half-life was, as he was sitting there bragging about how good he is at building custom PCs. And we're also not talking about being in 1998, we're talking about 2004.... 6 years later, where half-life is still being sold regularly and still one of the most if not THE most played multiplayer games available. So don't try to tell me it's existence is limited to a handful of PC guys while all the console supporters are left in the dark.

Also my choice of half-life was just a single example, as there are more than just a handful of games that sport guidable rockets. Heck, even destructable environments aren't a first (Red Faction). So I still fail to see what makes halo's multiplayer so "award worthy".

True, they might have heard of it...but wouldn't know what it is.Go on, get out of your home and ask any random 10 people on the street what half-life is and what halo is. Come back and type in the result.

Half-life is one of the most popular game, I know it and you know it and the overall community who play multiplayer games on computer. However not everyone knows it.

Considering the fact that half-life has sold more copies than halo, and more people play half-life and it's supported mods online every day than halo could dream of, my odds of finding 10 people that know half-life are pretty damn good. I also guarantee you that A LOT of people that regularly play halo also play half-life and various other pc games. Just because they play console or pc games doesn't mean they play ONLY console or pc games. All things considered, your statement that console players don't know jack about half-life lands somewhere in the vicinity of just plain asinine.

Also to establish half-lifes superiority as others have mentioned, half-life has been the most modded of any game.

Check out www.moddb.com for virtually every mod ever published. Notice how half-life is the most modded with 551 mods and counting.

Mainly because moddb was founded with Half-Life in mind. Also note that the second most modded game is Half-Life 2 with 339 mods. Next comes UT2K3 with 167 mods.

Everybody I know is in love with Halo and hate Half-Life. But that's because they never played it...:)

Also, double the weapons aren't innovative at all. Whoever thinks that is pretty stupid. :) All you do is change the weapon model and double the damage. How hard is that?

I wasn't aware that moddb was founded for HL, however, do you know of any mods not listed.

(don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge fan of mods since the majority of them are lame.)

 every publication every major review site, hell even small ones have their own "best of E3 crap" there is no "academy awards thing of E3"

Looking at the link you posted, we can see that this particualr group are "Console freaks" reason being? spinlter cell 3 is the "best pc game of the show" PLEASE! lmao, we all know its going to be an xbox port just like all the others.

The movie equivalent to a 'best of E3' awards would be 'best movie commercial' or 'best movie promotional merchandise' award.

I know what you mean shapeshifter, and after this year my thoughts of e3 arn't so high anymore.

I'm not surprised that Halo 2 got most of the awards (it'll never be best in show though :P ).

2002 - DOOM 3 got most of the awards
2003 - Half-Life 2 got most of the awards
2004 - Halo 2 got most of the awards

These three games are arguably the three Kings of the FPS realm, and as such it would make sense for them all to sweep E3 at least once.

Haha

when was doom 3 first announced?

And what was there excuse for delays?

I didn't think DIII had ever been delayed, just a case of them saying it'll be done when its done or something.

So it took 2 years after it was playable?
(Which probably took more than 2 years)

And I thought HL 2 was taking awhile. At least I'm not a doom fan. ;)

I think its pretty funny that Team Fortress 2 won "best action game" and "best multiplayer game" in 1999, and its still not out 5 years later...

oohhh... so thats why the Doom fans are a little ... off. :bonce:

seriously though, I would hate to think that Valve is begining to sweat with summer fast approaching. After all what's the point of keep improving a game if you're never going to release it. You have to reach a point and then stop.

I was rather dissapointed by some of things that I saw from Valve this year...I want the game to be spooky, not action packed over the limit!

Yep, everything made could be just a little bit better. But the things that stick out to you are usually hardly noticable.
