This is just one game I don't understand and I can't see how other people like it.

I played the origonal and stopped after about half an hour in. The UI and graphics were just horrible. The gameplay was messy, it felt like every object had a 10m invisible wall around them making units take stupid ways round.

So I got EE2. Well, I was hoping that the cool idea of so many ages and units would still be there (which it is) but better graphics, gameplay style and UI... unfortunatly after 5 seconds of play, I felt like I just bought EE again, it feels & looks EXACTLY the same.

I just don't get this game. Does anyone else feel the same? On subject of RTS, has anyone tried AOE3 in comparision? Thinking of trading it in for AOE3, it looks pretty impressive.

If you want a really GOOD rts that has a clash of several ages, get Rise of Nations.

Yeah, EE is definitely a love it or hate it game.
I personally loved it... my only gripe is that games took WAAAAAAAAY too long to end.
I mean I played one game for over 3 hours!
The graphics were great for its time... and I have no qualms with them today.
EE2 is EE1 with prettier graphics and a MUCH more complex UI.

Aaaaaaaand, I'd recommend Rise of Nations as well if you want the several ages thing.
It's pretty fast paced... games tend to only take minutes to begin and end.

I never did like EE, it always felt too un-scaled, and almost everything in the game looked like some kinda stupid sunday morning cartoon

EE rocked!
EE2 sucked, it felt like an RoN clone (same art style and everything)
And I never liked RoN.

Check that game out, shame Midway killed the developer :(
But it's too cool to pass up, Demo is out on the 28th.

I was a big fan of EE at one point. Really, it was the first of its kind to introduce many different ages and stuff. Then, so many duplicates came out. I do not consider Rise of Nations a duplicate though, that game was just pure RTS awsomeness. Anyway, when EE2 was announced I was excited about it, until I played the demo. Before EE2 I played a game called Empires: Dawn of the Modern World (made by same company), which was alright, but EE2 was basically the same thing, but crappier graphics. EE2 wasn't even that different from the original EE. It's just crap now.

How does it look horrendous?
Well, it looks like it has the possibility of being cheesy as hell. I'm not sure what level of proffesionalism is going into this. Watch the boats video. The narrator stumbles enough for me to actually cringe. And there's just something about the art style to me. It looks amazing in someways, but also way too cartoony.

That boat video was by far the funniest trailer I've ever seen.

"Take positio- posession of enemy shi- vessels.."

By the way yeah, get AOE3 instead. It's a good game, far better than EE2, but the gameplay isn't any different than that of AOE II. It's pretty much an AOE2 on drugs :) .

I would also suggest buying AoEIII over EE2...or even Oblivion. >_>
It feels just thrown together. It must be the new developer.

Ok, thanks guys. Guess EE is a marmite type thing. :D

I'll try AOE3. About Rise of Nations I have Cossacks (think it is done by same guys) and that is probably my favourite strategy ever! But then again Cossacks 2, the sequal, sucked.

Most empire RTS based games are crap, the only one that I have remotely gotten into is Age of Empires III, even though I thought the first two were crap. Rise of Nations was another good example and I felt that Empire Earth II stole some ideas. I'm hoping that rise of Legends can live up to its original.

I felt that RoN's resource model were original, as well as border control

Ah yeah, the Rick Goodman is definitely a game dev, definitely not a PR guy. I'm not sure why he's doing those videos, I think it's an audio recording from a press conference, if I remember correctly.
I alpha-tested the game last summer, and even then it kicked ass.

I got AOE3 this morning, love it. Sooooo much better than EE2, in fact, they shouldn't even be compared.

It has like a RPG minigame too, where the more you play, you unlock abilities and upgrades for your City Profile.
