Ep. 1 savegames corrupt?

So I fire up the HL2 Episode 1 today for a round of elevator standoff and guess what happens: I find that every single save game I've saved up to that point is toasted. The screen just flashes solid black and solid white until I hit escape. Every one of the games I'd saved to date was like that too.

Mysteriously, when I started a new game and saved it, it was fine--loaded no problem. But the old save games were still kablamo.

Is this a known problem?

it's the new update m8, valve will sort it, hopefully!

it also makes the character animation all jerky aswell
