Episode 1 seems to have more bugs than HL2 when it came out. I have played e1 for few hours now and ive crashed three times. Once randomly, and now, twice in same place.

It keeps crashing at the elevator @ low life when the elevator reaches the top and it starts loading new map.

Any workaround?
My comp:
Athlon xp 2600+, Asus a7n8x-e mobo
radeon9800xt, 2x 512 DC PC3200 ram (just enough to run the game with light swapping when killed all possible windows processes)

Sound card is integrated soundstorm.

Latest Catalyst and directx, all windows patches, hardware firewall, virusprotection killed :)

[PROPABLY FIXED?] Its now working ok when I downgraded the newest catalysts to 6.4 It even runs when windows processes left running

Lets dedicate this thread for bug posting, but anyway: Awesome game, whoa.

Didn't have any bugs, and had hardly any stuttering either.

Might I suggest validating your Steam cache files?
Already done that. Every game shows fragmentation = 0%, and just defragged all partitions to reduce stuttering (and that helped a lot)...

EDIT: Also, E1 wont detect my hw well... It says that my hardware directx level is 81 but software 9. I just updated directx but it didnt help. CS:S and other steam games detect my graphics card well...

I found a few bugs too, it crashed twice, once i dont know why, and once when i hit save. Also, at the beginning when dog is supposed to throw you hey vanished, the script still went ahead as if he was there... but the first time i played through he wasnt there. Kinda gay.

The funniest thing I've had happen so far - not sure if its a bug or not - was when in the reactor I killed a combine and he fell on the floor, but also through the floor, and keps spinning around...

Anyone else had this problem or is it normal?

Theres an episode two trailer out?

Can I download it on steam.

Also when will episode two be released?

Before it played the Episode 2 trailer the game crashed and restarted.
Mine did that as well. What if it is supposed to do that?
Because a program generally does not come back to life when it crashes.

In the first parts of the citadel, I jumped across a gap when you're restoring the walkways while under fire, and Alyx stopped following me. Had to reload to a prior save point :(

More than likely the Episode 2 trailer is for when you beat the game (You know how in TV Shows at the end of the episode they show you what's coming up? I'm sure it's something like that)

Episode 2 and Episode 3 should all be released by Winter 2007... Nothing more than that though (Not sure if Episode 2 trailer gives any date indication as I haven't beaten the episode yet)

Oh, and no bugs for me either...

2007? *cries* I hate getting addicted to games only to find out the sequelisnt until years away...hence my preference of retro games to the more advanced sequels

I keep crashing after having just finished getting survivors to the train - at the loading part....

here's my bug: it crashes at every autosave, quicksave and manual save.

Actually there is a really bad error i cant believe the developers let in the game. One of the thunder sound effects that they used at the end of the game was thunder during the rain. Of course it was not raining, so every time i heard the thunder with the rain in the background i just thought to myself how lame it was that they could let an inconsistency problem like that slip through. Did they only have access to a few sounds or something?

Anyway its minor but stupid.

The game keeps crashing for me right after the part where you escort 4 groups of citizens and then with the last group barney comes with you. As soon as it tries to load the next area, it crashes. I tried validating and it keeps crashing. So now I've deleted my Local Cache and re-downloading E1 all togeather.

it heats up my system so much, and booooooom reboot.

Heh, at least you guys got something. The first time I loaded it up, I saw the intro, then it stuttered to death just when Dog turned me towards Alyx.
Since then I haven't even been able to load the game. It always just stays stuck at about 3/4 through the loading screen, after I start a new game.

Amd 3700 2.2
1Gig
Ati 1600
:(

No bugs here and I runned the game on a very low end PC. A G4 VGA, 2.0 processor and 512mb of memory.

The problem I ever had was with the ep2 trailer (where it crashes and restart), but lots of people had that so I'm not really concerned.

I've had great luck with HL2 and EP1; no bugs to mention (slight stutter over time but a reboot takes care of it in both HL2 and Ep1)

EPoX EP-9NPA3ULTRA mobo
Athlon64 3200+ venice
XFX Geforce 7900GT Extreme
1gig Corsair
(nothing Oc'ed)

If you have stutter UPDATE DRIVERS!

I extreme stutter, and updating fixed it.

I've got some pretty wierd crashing going on, its probably somthing to do with my sound driver because when it crashes it makes a nice dial up tone, except 10000x worse and a full blast into my ear (Headphones).

Other than that its been playing flawlessly...I don't get it though as I was playing through HL2 again for about 6 hours the previous night without a single hitch...

I had a bug where i was in chapter 3 and in the dark room with the powerless elevator bringing you to the surface. For some reason Alyx wasnt here when she should be and when all the zombies come and u have to wait for the elevator theres no techno music and the elevator hardly ever comes(if it does you cant use it coz Alyx isnt with you). To resolve this I loaded up an earlier save game(fortunetely wasnt that far behind). Anyone else experienced this bug?

It doesn't crash when you try to watch the EP2 trailer. It's just that the game is rebooted, and the intro is the trailer, instead of just the old VALVe logo.

Every time I put my flashlight on Alyx, she turns white.

Ah. Thought it was something like that.

I keep freezing up just after Barney's train departs. It freezes and loops whatever sound was playing at the moment. I have high end comp and have updated all my drivers and defragged;( And I had NO problems with Half-Life 2 or the fist 3 or 4 chapters of Ep1

Yeah, I've tried re-downloading the enitre game, and it still crashes at that one part EVERY time. Guess I cant really finish the game.

What same place as me?? I sent in a Support Question tonight. I tried everything suggested at the website PLUS some.

Whenever I hit F9 (quickload) it goes to desktop, makes the error sound with no message. Used to get a problem where upon loading a random map, it would reboot.

Since I smashed up my 6600 with a crowbar (filmed it too!) I purchased a 7800, fixed the rebooting problem.

You tube that video, always love senseless destruction.

As to bugs, first time through it was flawless, which is probably the one time a game should be flawless.

The second time playing through, during the antlion fight in the parking garage Alyx would chose a corner and just shoot from there, so if I left her to get the cars to plug the holes she would die. I reloaded the chapter and she was much more mobile than before, allowing me time to plug a hole, defend her for a while for her health to regenerate, etc.

It gets worse every time I play through it, stuttering and crashing.

Also, the "Exit 17" chapter title never appears on the screen.

Not really a bug... more what you'd call sloppy mapping:

Just before stepping out to meet Barney and getting those small groups of people to the waiting train.

Map: C17/Exit 17.
Location: Turrets area.

Nothing too dramatic but shameful nonetheless :burp:

I didn't exactly keep count, but I would guess that my computer crashed about 25 times on my first single playthrough of Episode One. I think it's a hardware issue though :p

edit: also, yesterday it hung twice at the loading point between Lowlife and err... that other chapter. Like the topic starter said.

yes, there's a problem with stability. I updated all my drivers (audio, and graphics), and it fixed for me stuttering/looping sound crash, but the game keeps freezing. I hope they'll release and update, so i can play it again, with commentaries
