Episode One sound

I played through EP1 with commentary on, and the scripted sequence sounds stopped playing (they're supposed to with commentary on, right?). Well, when i stopped having having commentary, they still wouldn't play.
Checking the console, it says that no sounds are precached. Any ideas how to solve this?

Oh, and by the way, i changed my launch options to play the game in Direct X 8.0, then i removed the line, and it's still playing it in DX8. I have no idea why.

Could these two problems be linked?

the commentary isn't scripted....you have to press 'e' or your use key on them to play. also to determine your direct x problem,what are your pc specifications?

The commentary wasn't the problem. It's every single other sound.

And i fixed the Direct X problem too.
