I personally think its a good idea, I wouldent want to wait a additional 6 years to play a good game agian. My only concern is that the source engine may age to fast before they get to episode 3 (Take a look at Crysis). Note, they never said no Half Life 4...

On a side note:

"Finally, Newell also warned fans not to expect a Half-Life movie anytime soon, as he had some unkind words to say about the script treatments Hollywood has offered: "They all sucked!"

*Edit* Hmm, seems there are other threads pertaining to this issue, my mistake.

This has been brought up before.

I don't know which of the three threads about this to post ins o I'll do it here.

Sure, these will ultimately act as HL3 as through the episodes they work as a full game, but that is probably why they chose to call it HL2 still. They are leaving it all open for a potential 3rd installment to the series which I reckon they won't be able to pass up on.

But they also mentioned it'll just finish up the HL2 arc. They said it took them six years to make HL2, but they forgot to mention it was another two years because of the leak. I still think HL3 is going to be a full game.

I bet they're taking all these cool new bits of technological wonderment and throwing some extra content in the bigass "HL3" folder on the share drive.

Thievery isn't leaking.

I sincerely doubt it cost them two years. Had to rewrite a fair bit of code, I'm sure. But HL2 was going to be delayed any way.

I wouldn't take Newell's comments that literally (unless I've missed something). When he says they might as well have called it Half-Life 3, I think he meant that they considered this trilogy to be an installment all on its own as opposed to a mere expansion.

I'm quite sure that Half-Life 3 itself, if and when it comes out, will be its own full product. All the technology that's currently been implemented and is under development will be poured into what somebody here has already dubbed the "bigass HL3 folder" along with some more bells and whistles. This is certainly affordable if the Source engine truly is as malleable as they claim it to be. But even if they do decide to chunk it up like these episodes, I'm fine with that.

thanks, Raziel-Jcd  very interesting interview and it looks like it is backed up now that the episodes collectively are HL3.

Until they actaully com out and directly say the episodes are HL3, Im not convinced
