Euro Forces for Battlefield 2 is out NOW!

Just purchased it, downloading now with about 30 mins left to downlaod.

I don't even have SF's yet, is it an expansion of the expansion? I don't quite understand.
 
its a booster not an expansion - adds maps and new weapons/vehicles to the core game
the second and possibly last booster in due next month - Armoured Fury (War in the US)
 
I'll wait and make sure its not a total waste, then buy it.
 
Finished downloading, installed it via EA downloader and the bloody thing wont let me play. Says i need to install EF to play. I JUST DID YOU STUPID GAME!!

I emailed their tech support, and i gota wait now >_<
 
ren i reckon you made a mistake
when asked for your gamespy name you have to out in your bf2 player name not your ea account name
you can change it in your profile on ea.com

Fixed. Thanks. I put the email instead of the actualy acount name >_<
The maps are ok. New weapons are pretty sweet too :)

BTW, me four. The weapons are nice (checked them using a mod; they're already on our HDD's, the mod "unlocks" them), but I don't know what about the maps. I don't understand one thing - if DICE knows the community prefers urban maps, why don't they release such maps in the booster pack?

i rolled back today and decided to just use ie6 seeing as I was too lazy to close a load of ie windows rather than fire up ff

Gonna wait for EF to finish first, not goin to touch IE6 at all until after that and then put back IE7 Beta and never touch EA Downloader till AF then roll back again...sigh

Only use IE7 for Gamespot as FF is a pain in the arse on their forums.

I can think of 2 urban maps in SF: Ghost Town and Warlord.

Some people hated SF, and that may be one of the main reasons why it's not popular, because of the bad performance. It looks like it all goes to poor coding - the game's engine renders everything in your field of view, even if it is not visible to the player (behind the wall). In SF the maps have buildings you can enter, and the engine struggles with rendering complex indoor environments.

You can see that even in vanilla. Go to the top of the TV Tower on Sharqi and look down on the floor. You will get an FPS drop, because the engine renders all the storeys below you.

If DICE managed to do something with that, I bet SF would be more popular.
 
special forces plays like an inferior counterstrike
and i already own 2 versions of counterstrike :|

there lies the problem with special forces - not the tech issues but with the gameplay
 
Okay noob question, It's asking me for my BF2 Gamespy Account name. What exactly is that?
 
right this has caused just about everyone headaches today
its your ingame nickname and you can only use euroforces on one nick only
now to complicate things you may not actually have a gamespy account in that nickname :(
1. go to login.gamespy.com and check to see if you can login in with your email and password
2. if your bf2 name is there (bp*|rando in this case i think) then just enter that into the downloader, if not create an account in that name
3. continue to download

This means that theres an entire expansion pack sitting around full of close-quarters maps, it just remains for the technical bugs to be worked out. No matter what, plenty of Urban maps exist, its just engine limitations that keep people from playing them.

And most of SF is composed of maps with tighter quarters and more infantry-heavy combat than vanilla BF2.
 
Whats even better, supposedly the downloader only works on XP. GREAT JOB EA!
 
SF was a huge let down. I've only played two maps, basically, and every server has it setup to play warlord every other wap..three times in a row.

SF could be cool, but it just isnt.
 
So uh, anyone played it yet? I want to hear your opinions on this, my brother might buy this but he would like to see what people think of it first.
 
Ok played about an hour this afternoon
its what everyone was expecting armoured fury to be - massive armour battles which rock
if you like infantry, Great Wall is the only map that will keep you happy - and even then its more Wake Island combat (attrition) than karkand et al
Operation Smokescreen is like El Alamein for Bf1942

i enjoy it - its a true battlefield map pack and probably wont please the community who wanted infantry ONLY maps
I admire DICE for staying true to their vision of the game (very few others would withstand such pressure to conform and be counterstrike with vehicles) - Kudos

The installation process was quick and painless - just remember you cannot install with IE7 and your gamespy user name is your bf2 nick
havent flown the eurocopter yet - apparently its quite different to fly
 
Am I completely missing something here or are there no EuroForce servers in the BF2 server browser?
 
Err...maybe they'll just show when you are running Euro Force? Or does EF have its own menu and everything or just a booster pack which just opens like Vanilla does?
 
You'll find server running the EF maps in the browser, just look through it

Haven't played yet, time is short..
 
PLayed on the great wall map for about 30 mins today. I enjoed it :) Loving the new weapons.
 
Map rotation will be confirmed soon.....

When put on, will most likely be in a block so punters dont get kicked every other map...if ya get me...
 
Meh, only 2 French weapons, Famas and Tiger Helicopter... not even a Leclerc Tank... when I think that France its the bigest suporter to form an European Army.

I don't want to be wasting money, even if a measley 10. If you keep wasting money soon enough you wont have any left. That is why I ask, why even put 10 into something that will sit there and take up space?
 
Just out of interest, what is the EU side arm? As I havent seen it I'm assuming that they were lazy and used the 92FS, but I would like to know.
