My little farewell-statement:

After tons of critics about the new HD models (some of them really very personal) i will stop all further activity in the HL2 community. Several times in the past weeks i was thinking, half of the community are either kiddies or must be brain-dead. They are bitching about *optional* features in a *optional* mod, that is *entirely* free.

Hell, yes! THAT IS EXACTLY, WHAT I WANTED! Should i modify a game, without modifying it?

With the character pimper i released a tool for those people to easily deselect unwanted content. The answer was more bitching, more complaints. One original phrase, i received: "i can't select my old CM3 models with your shitty tool. now i must play with your fuggly-ugly hd models and a alyx, who looks like a bitch."

(Unfortunately he didn't told me, where i can find such pretty looking hookers.)

No more. I'm out. This mod will remain at beta-state forever. Its currently quite bug-free, but there will be no further development.

Let me thank skyrider and the hl2files staff for two years filehosting. I wish you all a nice time.

Props to the community for driving away its biggest contributor. Extra props to them for continuing to be assholes after being warned. :thumbs:
 
Stuff like this proves to me that Erik Johnson's advice about modding is utterly outdated these days. As much as I would like small, creative mods coming out, mod consumers these days are amazingly untactful. You have a guy who spends some time to share some of the stuff he made, and you cut him down because he doesn't fit your expectations. Nice going guys.

dont worry, its not like he's going away forever. this is what he does, this is what he enjoys. perhaps he's done with source, but since he's a human being like all of us, he'll be back around. fakefac is going to do what he's going to do. it might take a month, maybe two, whatever time, but ff will be back, perhaps under a different name, or not. think of it, anyone whos ever left a trade, sport or field, that isnt because of old age, makes a comeback. its no different. enjoy your time off buddy, i'll see you when you get back :]

Comments like that show how clueless some people are. It's like they're entitled to whatever Fake Factory makes. Way to go parasite. (Yay for Andrew Ryan's psychotic game talk :p )
 
I never tried FF but I think that it is sad that a lack of support has caused him to stop trying.

This reminds me of something I read a while ago (it's annoying I can rarely find links to old things I have read) Garry (of Garry's Mod) posted a blog where he chastised the wider mod community for having unrealistically high expectations and being too quick to criticize.

Well, criticism is one thing, but using profanity such as "bitch", "retarded", "fag", etc, or belting out your hatred of everything w/o reason is crossing the line I think. Too bad there isn't a low difficulty literacy test for the internet.

As for idiots who think that FF has to take abuse just because he "loves" to mod, there's nothing stopping FF from merely modding for himself and not sharing his labors. A love of modding does not go hand in hand with a love for being degraded publicly.
 
Must admid that I actually really thinks this mod look so nice. To bad a guy like this looses his interest because of stupid kids (no offense me myself Im only 15 but tries to keep it in a mature tone). Will try this out when I finish download v.05

I remember looking at a certain other sies forums and all it was, was horrendous sigs and a bunch of guys talking smack.. I dont get the feeling they even try the mods they download..

His mistake was to listen to the clearly pointless swarms of tards in the first place. Not that its his fault for getting the abuse, but the realities of life and the internet dictate you need to suck it in and learn to ignore them.
 
I don't think he should take feedback that personal. All Valve employees would had committed suicide if they did that. Feedback should always be taken with a grain of salt and should always be processed to provide information about what the creator should be doing. This is just e-drama, in my opinion, and that shouldn't be the case. Maybe he could just ask Valve some advice on processing feedback and settle for that.
 
One thing with Valve is that a lot of the testing they do is related to gameplay, and they do their tests in person, so there's less of the socially-retarded drama on the internet.

A lot of the feedback with FF mod deals mainly with incompatibilities with hardware. I think the nature of the mod either forces him to ignore a large portion of angry, inarticulate players, or to bear a huge brunt of people ranting about how the mod sucks due to hardware issues.

What a lot of mods seem to be doing is conducting private tests with focus groups so they can manage the criticisms they get with minimal sifting. But with the FF mod that would greatly limit the range of hardware configurations tested.
 
I appreciate all of FF's work, and it really does look awesome, but on the other hand ... if you can't handle retard comments, there's no point in releasing something online. :)
 
FF's stuff looks ugly as hell to me, but eh, if people want to use their $500 (alright, I guess $250 with the new 8800GT video cards) to ruin their games, it doesn't bother me, and I feel bad for the guy.

I think that statement turned out much more depressing than what cyk was going for. No use trying to change the world. :laugh:

Even happy comments are utterly useless when the guy behind them isn't using his brain to think critically about what he's looking at.
 
I didn't like his mods at all, but then a lot of people did, and it's a shame to see him listen to the flood of tard's on the interwebs and assume it all mattered.
 
I wish he comes back, even tho i prefer the Valve models anyday. I would still like to mess around with FF.
 
It was a great mod. Only problem was the sound files.


I'll put money on Valve attempting to hire him for episode 3 or something.

Loved the mod in general.
