Formatting HDD, Anyway to backup d/l HL2?

I need to format my HDD and I downloaded HL2 through steam and I am just wondering if there is a way to properly back it up? any tips ? I hate downloading

Right click Half Life 2. If you can't see the option, may you lose your windows disk after formatting.

What a helpful comment.

Load the "Play games" segment of steam and right click on any games you want to back up and select "Back up". It will pop up a handy wizard that will even chop it up into CD sized pieces.
