Forum technical question

When programming a forum how can you tell that someone and left the forum or closed their browser or logged out?

i think u need to look into session cookies.

when a user logs in info will be stuck in a cookie so the website nows how to treast that user. If the user logouts/closes the browser the cookie will be destroyed. (u can give a cookie a life span so users can return to the website and still be logged in).

This is done with sessions stored in a database. I could go into more detail, however, this is not the place for this. Your best bet is to look around programming forums.
