I've seen many posts on this and other sites about HL2 causing physical illness/motion sickness. I'm an avid gamer and suffer from this problem on almost any first person perspective game I play... EGADS!

If you have this problem and still want to play HL2, or any other game, just take an over the counter motion sickness pill about 60 minutes before you play. No messing with screen resolutions, frame refreshes, or any other such gobbledegook.

As a side note, there was a study done about this years ago that theorized the problem was caused by a type of graphical over-immersion in a game. That article recommended lowering various settings, such as resolution, to remedy the situation. I think this solution is bunk (it was written when games' graphic quality was... less than exemplary...), but interesting.

From experience I can say: the longer you play after noticing dizziness or other symptoms the longer you will feel icky after you stop.

Some games that seem to cause this worse than most:
Half Life 2, Half Life and Mods of either (such as C/S)
Doom and it's sequels/offshoots
Beyond Good and Evil
Taurok Dinosaur Hunter
Some of the Tomb Raider games (No idea which ones... they all blend together)

Some games that don't cause this effect for me:
Unreal and it's sequels
Serious Sam
No One Lives Forever
American McGee's Alice

If anybody knows a feature of the games in the first list that isn't in the second, please tell... otherwise, I do hope that this info helps if you are impacted by this problem.

DIMS. (Doom induced motion sickness) is caused when your brain thinks you are moving, because your brain is tricked into it by the monitor, and yet your body firmly believes you are not moving, because you are not. The conflicting signals can cause Nasuea, headaches, dizziness etc.
