Im sure this would help people that have 256MB or even 512MB RAM

For playing offline games

I used msconfig, set it to selective startup, on services tab, disable all except:

Enable Windows Audio and Plug and Play

(of course you could go through the checklist and enable others like network services or whatever)

This freed 130MB of System RAM for me.

Your results may vary.

(There are a couple that will not be deselected becuase they are necessary for windows operation. So don't worry)

To clarify, on the msconfig "General" tab:

Select These:

Selective Startup

Load System Services

use original BOOT.INI

on services tab, disable all except:

Enable Windows Audio and Plug and Play

It would be cool if windows had a button on the taskbar to allow all resources for games:

[NormalXP] [GamesXP] Buttons lol

Any advice welcome.

BTW to revert to normal WindowsXP, just run msconfig again and select Normal startup

you anret supposed to disable services from msconfig (only programs that boot on startup)... you are though from 'services.msc'. And you can create profiles and choose what profile you want to start up.... I have a gaming profile and a default one incase something goes wrong.

all info can be found here : www.blackviper.com

haha, i doubt his comp will boot very well if he's disabled all the MS services:D:D:D

It's called a "gaming account [user]" and a "fun (pr0n) account". ;)
Yea I tried that but alot of apps, and alot of games only will play on one account or the other so when I formated the drive, I just made one account

...It's kind of stupid the way they did Xp for this reason

Yea man, this is alot of info, thank you very much.

He warns of using msconfig, saying why would you need to disable everything.

but i say bah, it doesn't disable everything.

It disables anything not necessary to play games, and thats exactly what my intention was.

lol

therefore enabling around 150 MB thats more than half some

fellas total system RAM. lol ..and thats nothing to laugh at. (So

to speak.)

Running windows like this completely stoped stuttering in half-life 2 altogether
Before this it was stuttering every 20 seconds or sometimes a few minutes but. It's gone.

I will spend some time reading all this and reply once more, after

I learn a sh*t load.

For the record my computer booted fine though, much faster

I experienced no problems

so instead of Overwriting my normal settings... (by the sound of my hardrive), I just want it to LOAD a bare bones settings, safely , so this is what I hope to learn.

double click on a game play it, quit, play a diff game.. etc.

I don't need very many services to do that.

I appreciate the advice, it is ALWAYS welcome.

Thanks Fellaz!

Hey! I type up to 70 words per minute! Since your username is mispelled and since I rarely mispell anything, I can only assume you mean the format. I'll work on it, since Pressure seems to find it annoying also.
lol

I use cacheman, bit of fiddling with settings and not loading up tons of uneeded stuff, seems fine if your careful.

Im not a geek, but sometimes im a dork. There is a difference you know. lol

I started programing when I was 9 so I type pretty decent speed. The characters and numbers slow me down big time, so I bought a typing program.

you can type 2-4 times faster than you can write with a pen or pencil!

I prefer typing to writing, but then my handwriting was always hard to read, even by myself.
