Game Hosting Tutorial?

Everyone,

Anyone know of a good tutorial on how to properly host a HL2 Deathmatch game (or and Valve game) using the Dedicated Server on the Internet as opposed to LAN?

LAN is pretty easy, but I can't get it to show up on the internet. I think I am forwarding ports correctly but I don't know if that is it or not

If I run a dedicated sever on my computer can I also see it show up on the server list when I search for it? Or will it not show up because it is on my computer?

Me and my friend have tried to do this with Counter-Strike: Source, you know, trying to port forward, and it never worked. It's annoying, and I don't know why it has to be so hard.

Try setting your firewall to low.

Don't host dedicated servers and then play on the same computer.

When you say Don't play on the same computer, does that mean you literally cannot, or it will slow things down if you do?

Also, are you talking about the firewall settings on my computer or inside the router somehow?
