I bought the Collector's Edition, since I was sold on the PA atmosphere of the game AND the fact it was developed by Epic. And, since I loved Unreal, and continue to do, that was enough of a recommendation.

The game works extremely well on max details in 1280x1024 on a year-old build, the controls are damn responsive and intuitive and feel like the entire game was designed with a PC in mind. The only complaint from me is that I had to free 12 Gb of my disk space to fit this monstrosity, but all in all, it's a good investment.

I don't have a seXBox and didn't play GoW before, so I can't really tell which parts were expanded for the PC release.

The bad things are the colour palette, which makes everything look alike and sometimes I feel like I was fighting in a gray box. Another minor complaint is that it's just a simple shooter, and the gameplay lacks that little bit of variety (more levels like the one with the Berserker would be great).

Regardless, it plays and feels good, if a little dull at times. The architecture is absolutely stunning, despite the colour variety (or rather lack thereof) and is really distinct, especially how the culture's focus on the gear as it's symbol is presented.

All in all, it's a great game, but not really a GotY so far.

PS: The port was done by Poland's very own People Can Fly. Although I loathe Chmielarz for his "PC gaming must die" sentiment.

Yup. I don't think it could ever be any different with the cover system intact.

True enough.

I played it at a convention I went to last month, on the 360. Did better in that than in most console games.

I am surprised not many games have the same feature, I would of bought Killswitch after playing the demo, but I couldn't find it anywhere on its release.

I've just completed this game for the third time through this time on insane difficulty :>

Loved it!

Gears really shines in multiplayer if you have a good team together. Surprisingly, it turned out more tactical than R6 and the like as you move forward with your squad, covering each other and making rushes.

I love Gears. I'm so peeved that the extra campaign content is only available for the PC version, but my computer doesn't even come close to supporting a game like that and I can't afford a gaming PC anytime soon. So bah.

I told you all it's best being a PC aficionado. :D

If you're prepared to wait ;)

When's Gears 2 out?

I'm pretty sure Games For Windows Live! only works on Vista. It's one of Microsoft's lame pushes to get people to buy their bloatware.

I've been tempted to buy this game, but I'm not sure if I want to pay the $50 for it, especially considering you can't even get the game's full functionality unless you pay a monthly fee. Too bad there's no demo version.

No it works you have to make an account on installation and can download patches from it but somehow you still need vista for online? O_o

WAIT...Microsoft has their own "XBox Live" version for windows? When was this?

Man, that's GAY. We already pay for interwebs...

Microsoft seems to have failed to notice that VALVe already has something better and more useful, not to mention free. STEAM.

And no, I don't consider the ability to see and hear a fat, acne-ridden teenager behaving like an amphetamine-fed chipmunk with a bad case hemorrhoids LIVE! a good thing.

I would buy it, but the inability of multiplayer kind of kills it. :(

Mutliplayer doesn't interest me, so I haven't tried it yet. I'm not good at the game yet anyway.

Just to confirm, Gears of War works on Windows XP.

You CAN play multiplayer gears on XP. It only requires games for windows live which works fine on xp...

I bought GoW for 360 a couple weeks back, and I was just a little disappointed. The combat is fun and works well (I'm playing on hardcore), but it's so very repetitive and the game design isn't quite all there in terms of polish. And yeah, I certainly didn't buy for storyline, but the shite this game is packaged with is totally unacceptable; it's like they weren't even trying. It's pretty appalling.

But it's fun. I've only played SP, and I'm not done yet. Coop is good.

Multiplayer is a good way to get into GoW - it didn't really click for me untill after a few matches. You can take what you learn there into single player and realy stick it to the bastards.

Hey, the story is good for a simple shooter.

Something I noticed after looking at the walls closer. Dudes. The setting and aesthetic bears heavy steampunk influences, not to mention Art Deco.

Sometimes I was thinking I was playing a Fallout FPS... unfortunately, that's going to be released by BethSoft as Fallout 3. :(

Hmm, what's funny about this to me is everyone i've talked to says that it's easier to control on 360. . . anyways, i keep finding more and more reasons to hate micro$oft everyday.

I haven't played the 360 version, but the control is perfect on the PC with the 360 controller.

Maybe they weren't using a gamepad, or a different gamepad...

Pfft cry babies. Make it sound like someone stole your child and molested the thing. Oh wait I don't like Fallout, I might have stolen your child.

Stupid troll is stupid.

It would be interesting to see a survey of how well both Steam and Windows Live are doing.

Not to mention Gabe used to work for Microsoft :p

Well, with my Steam being broke and nothing seeming to fix it, Steam sucks dick right now.
