Generation Plaza Question (Spoilers)

3 Questions about the generation plaza, which i'm on at the moment. It's the part where Alyx tries to shut down the generator in the plaza, and you have to hold off combines with your squad, then go through the open gate. But I need to know a few things to know if i should go on or re-load the game.

1) Most of my team died, is this alright - will I get more later or should i keep going?

2) I actually managed to get 1 through the gate, but my "squad following" thing disappeared, and I can't get him to come with me. How do I get the remaining one to stay with me?

3) After Alyx climbs onto the roof and tells me to go on, I see her go away, hear screams, then she comes back and tells me to go on, but I see her get shot. Is this meant to happen, or did I not leave her with enough health or am i meant to kill the combine on the roof?


Thanks in advance. I want to know because I don't want to play on then find I can't continue because I let Alyx die or something

You do not need your team, you get more up ahead...as for Alyx....It wont be a problem, I didnt see that part but I assume you arent supposed to protect her...so go for it...

Nah, it's all scripted to work that way. The fighters stay behind and Alyx gets captured. You heve to continue on on your own.

Hahaha. I'm upto the end of "Follow Freeman!" and until you all just reminded me then, I had completely forgotten that Alyx got captured on that rooftop.

If you did not finish or did something wrong it would not let you go on and if you let an important character die it will fade to red and let you know you failed.

like i let father grigori die at the end of ravenholm.... it gives a mission status screen saying 'failure' and reason why

Another problem - in the strategy guide it says that as soon as i walk to the caged gate there will be a loading point and it will be "Follow Freeman", but for me it says i'm still on AntiCitizen One, and i've gone quite far into the tunnels.
