This is an idea I have for an opposing force style game based around the events of hl2. This is what happens in it-

Chapter 1: Welcome back...
The game begins when you are in a steel cage with several other people. The cage is infact on a train which is moving through what looks like a prison, complete with combine gaurds mooching about and prisoners in cells. On the screen flashes up-
Subject: Emily Dixon
Status: Ending five year jail term
Just as it fades away the train comes out of the prison and onto a track on the edge of a cliff. You go into a tunnel for a while and then come out onto the bridge in hl2. While going over it a combine comes into the cage and begins to speak-
"You are now citizens of City 17. Upon arrival you will recieve a tracker which will be taken with you at all times. The punishment for straying outside your allowed zones or any attempt to remove the tracker will be severe."
The combine walks out, pausing for a moment when it sees you. You go into the next tunnel. After a while you hear a sudden screeching sound and the train slows to a stop. You begin to hear radio chatter as combine rush out of the train a run down the track.
"Unidentified species"
There is a gun fight and soon you begin to hear cries of-
"Urgent assitance needed" and "Reinforcemnents critical"
Your fellow inmates are panicing and screaming to be let out. For a second there is silence as the final combine is slaughterd. Then something, to fast for you to make out what it is, leaps towards the cage, and the lights go out. You hear screams as the thing enters the pitch black cage and attacks the people in there. You hear its breath get closer and closer, and then slowly die away. A few seconds later one light flashes on, showing you where the cage had been ripped open. You go out and see the dead combine litterd about, you can pick up a sub and pistol from them too. You begin to walk away down the tunnel to the light when you hear the creatures onimous breath coming towards you. It dies away again, but suddenly it jumps at you and everything goes black. You wake up on your side and see several combine in silver and red suits fighting the creature. They are not like the combine in hl2, they are holding what look like to be energy shotguns. For the first time you see the creature. It is as almost as tall as the tunnel, it has thin long legs and arms which end in pincers. Its whole body is covered in headcrabs. You recognise its green skin, this is one of the "benefactor" aliens from inside the citadel, after being attacked by a head crab. You black out again, waking up to find just one elite combine is left. The alien zombie plunges one of its pincors into the combine and brings it up to its face. With the last of it energy the combine lifts up its energy shotgun and blasts the creature in its face. All goes black once more.
You wake up again and get on your feet. One way down the tunnel is blocked by the train which has now been turned over and the other by a dropship which has come into the tunnel. There is a door at one side of the tunnel, but that is blocked by fire which kills you when you go into it. However you can go up to the dropship and enter it, inside there is what looks like an armory, however all the guns have been taken out. All there is is a silver and red vest like the elite combine where wearing. You put this on. Some alien language flashes up, then anouther which is equally as weird. Finally english flashes up, you see the message "Establishing neuroconnections". That goes away and a HEV suit style HUD comes up, telling you your armour and health levels. You go back to the door and step through the fire. Anouthe message comes up which looks a lot like the auxillary power bar, except this one is called "Energy Level". As you step through the fire you see a silver gleam on your hands , intresting.
You step through the door...

More, when I feel like it, tell me what you think so far

It's pretty good. Your idea of the Combine armor is interesting.

wow dude, sounds pretty awsome to me so far, usualy when i see big paragraphs like that i run away but this cought my atttenion, very nicely done

I actually think there shoud be BlueShift type deal, where you get to play as barney during the time that Gordon is out playing in the airboat and dune buggy. You could be Barney Bringing in Gordon, and leting him go, Barney pulls out his pistol and shoots the Combine soldier beating on the door. You then have to fight through to the spot where you throw Gordon the Crowbar. Then you have to get back to your normal job, and fight your way back. You meet Gordon again in the transport room in klieners office. You get to play catch with "cat". Afer Cat jumps out the windows you tell the doc you will go find him, and you go on a massive kill Combine binge. you later run into gordon when you are pinned down on the roof......

Just a thought. During opposing forces you did see Gordon jumping inot the portal......

pretty good! but you black out way to many times!
i think it would be perfect if you cut down on the black outs at beginning!

She's called "Lamarr", not "Cat", the cat they were talking about was a reference to something else...

But I like Kristafon's idea a lot...

cut out the black out between seeing the combines in red and silver armor battling the alien and the one where you see the last of them being killed and it's perfect. very good beginning, at the least

You do know that the more stuff you release like this the less likely your story is going to happen right? If Valve actually did this, they would be open to a lawsuit from you because they stole your idea.

iv decided to cut this out until i see what valve thinks of my idea, sorry

meh, almost always non game industry people dont get there ideas taken up, the only real way is to actualy be a game designer youself

EDIT actually i may as well se what valve thinks, ill tell you the rest after i get a reply

I wouldn't play it since I hate headcrabs but it's a good start. The only thing which bothers me for real is that the plot above truly is just an intro for something, maybe like 3-5 minutes worth of playing when done properly.

i really doubt anyone is going to sue valve if they made up a fan story and it was similar to what happens in a game. I for one would be so damn proud.

Forget valve replying, here is some more

Chapter 2: Prisoner 13
First I’d like you to look at that name and think very hard.
Anyway, in this chapter you go through a maze of tunnels filled with zombies and head crabs. On the way you find one of the tunnels has been turned into a miniature Goncarchs Liar, after killing a miniature Goncarch you receive a pouch from the dead Gonarch. This begins to emit mini head crabs which you can then use to throw at enemies. After a while the tunnels change from a man made structure to the blackness of the combine walls, which seems to be eating away at the man made walls. Combine keep coming down, so fun can be had with your baby headcrab creator (these baby headcrabs can bury inside the skin too). The tunnels get a bit wider after a while before you meet an energy barrier, you walk down another path which turns back into the man made tunnel. You find a ladder and come up inside a building of some sort. You go into the next room to find low and behold Gordon’s buggy is still there!

Chapter 3: On the road
You burst out of the garage with it to find the Combine killing the last of the resistance members Gordon fought with. Time to kick some butt! You kill the Combine with your laser and then drive out, only to find an energy wall has been put up. You follow the wire back to a tank where the last resistance member is lying. He tells you to take a rocket launcher with you from the lighthouse and cuts the wire from the tank, taking the energy barrier down. Rocket launcher in hand you drive away. You go back on the way Gordon came on the road. On the way you stop at a couple of towns to get patched up and fight some more combine. Eventually you come to a place where the road has been blocked. You get out of your buggy to investigate when a crack opens in the cliff next to you, someone pops there head out and says to come over. You do so, they check the coast is clear and tell you to drive the buggy in. Inside is a vortiguant who tells you to give him the rocket launcher. While he fits it onto your buggy the human tells you how they turned this cave into a resistance hideout and how it goes all the way from the coast road onto Highway 17, the large road that goes to city 17. Once your buggy has been modified with a rocket launcher with automatic reload and infinite ammo you head off into the cave. Before long you see a Stop sign and a wooden wall in front of you. You blast straight through it (naturally) and find yourself on a wide highway.

Chapter 4: Highway 17
In this chapter you go down the straight highway while battling it out with waves and waves of tanks and dropship. Eventually you come to a Combine barricade across the road. You stop and get out, abandoning the buggy. There are no way you will get through the barricade; there is way too many Combine. However there is a train track passing underneath the road (phew). You jump down onto the next train and then down into a carriage where everyone whoops and cheers, they must have seen you deal with that combine scum themselves.
"What’s your name" One says
"Leave her alone, she will want to rest for a while” Another says
"Prisoner, one, three, it says that on her shirt" One notices
Eventually you pull into the train station like Gordon did at the beginning of hl2.

Chapter 5: ...to city 17
You walk out into the station to see Dr Breen making his welcome speech. There is yet another man arguing with a combine over his luggage being taken away. No sooner do you go through the gates than Dr Breen’s face is taken off the screens, to be replaced by Barneys face appears-
"Citizens of 17. The time for the uprising is now. Today the Combines main teleport was destroyed and they are weak. Fight them now!"
All hell breaks loose. The combine rush around as Dr Breen’s face appears back up on the screens, reminding City 17 hurriedly the consequences of fighting back, while be interrupted repeatedly by Barney. You run through the station until a wall blows open; on the other side a resistance gang greet you-
"Emily, I thought you would never come back from Nova Prospekt."
They tell you they are heading towards the nearest generator. So you go through the streets fighting off some combine, however this time you are not the leader of the gang, you must follow the orders of team leader. You continue until a strider start coming down the street at you. The leader decides they don’t have a chance with the weapons that they have and go into a building opposite. The leader tells you to split up and go back to HQ, you are told to go through the backstreets. You also see a giant screen with Dr Breen making an interesting speech-
“Citizens of City 17. In this recent period of upset something has come to my attention. I have told you already about the trouble maker Gordon Freeman. I am disappointed to find yet another hero figure, someone else who insists upon ruining the hopes of earth. She is becoming known as The One Free Prisoner. Giving shelter or allegiance to this person is a crime which will be dealt with very seriously…”
You go through the backstreets as instructed until you come to what looks like a dead end. Just before you turn back a ladder suddenly slides down and one of the resistance members shouts from you to come up.

Chapter 6: HQ
Inside HQ there are some resistance members being hospitalized, you hear a sudden bang from the room next door. You go through to investigate and find Dr Kliner standing there with what looks like the gravity gun. He tells you this is the one point gravity gun and asks you to go to the roof with him so he can give you the basics. The one point gravity gun is like the normal gravity gun except when you pick something up is stays at the same distance away from you instead of coming all the way up to the gun. Then you must “charge” a throw by sucking the object closer to you and the releasing the mouse button. There is also a physics ray, instead this one goes further and can be bounced round corners.
You come back down from the roof to be told that the building is excepting a covenant attack soon. You are given several turrets plus a few mines, as well as another invention by Dr Kliner, a flash mine. This can be put down so when enemies approach it, it explodes making a bright light and blinding them. While keeping this in order you must also shoot down the dropship that comes above the building on the roof. After a few waves Striders come and start blowing the building apart. You can destroy them, however more and more keep coming. Eventually one fires its blue ray straight at you, around you can see space being warped, however inside the ray time seems to have come to a standstill. Everything around you seems to fade away, until all that you can see is the bluish glow around you. The next sequence is similar to when Gordon goes through the first teleport. You hear and bang and the ominous teleport noise. Nest you are flying through space at an enormous speed, then suddenly you are falling down onto City 17, the next you are in Dr Breen’s office where he is talking about the disappearance of Gordon, then the next you are inside a yellow flame that is reaching up into space, everything round you is barren and desolate, then finally you come to a stop.

Hey I didnt spend an hour wiriting an update for this so it could be taken off the first page withing minutes. The upadate is there and free for reading!

It is seldom believable that a woman takes on a kill 'em all roll... just doesn't feel right. Not sure you mean it to have Half-L1fe style gameplay... but if not, I guess the game doesn't belong in the HL world.

Alyx? Thats in the HL world?
Sorry if im keeping you from going to beat up your wife for not ironing your shirts properly but that was quite a stupid statement.

No one cares any more but heres an UPDATE, this ones good, promise

Chapter 7: The other side
It is pitch black where you are for a moment and you can hear the sound of your own breathing. Then a hole appears in the ceiling and a single light shines down on a stream under you feet. You follow the stream down; it keeps getting steeper and steeper until you are sliding uncontrollably. You then come into a deep pool. You come to the surface to find you are on a large platform floating in space, you’re in Xen! Above you is a small mountain with a portal on top. You must follow the path that winds up the mountain, killing Xen aliens on the way. When you go through the portal you end up looking over what looks like an alien factory from Hl1. You find a doorway and go through it; the path takes you down to the factory floor. After dispatching any lingering aliens you notice there is tracks going round, like the ones in the citadel in Hl2. Instead of the “pods” going round there is what looks like some sort of seat. You hop in to find they are a lot more ergonomic. What follows is something like “On a Rail” from Hl2. Left and right control the speed of the seat, while forwards and back controls the tilt of the seat. You whiz round the rest of the factory shooting away. You stop however when the rail comes to an end. You get out and go across a walkway into what looks like a control room. Below you can see a maze of tracks, all of them leading to certain death (fire and electricity) except one which goes through another tunnel. There are four wheels to turn, each controlling on intersection of track. The only problem however is that the easiest path is blocked by some destroyed track, so you must use all four wheels to find another way through the maze. That accomplished you continue, the track takes you through a glass tunnel, on either side you can see the aliens going about their business. The glass tunnel ends however and you come into a large room. In the room is what looks kind of like a combine dropship, however it seems to be seated on some kind of throne looking towards you. It considered you for a while before beginning to fire down. You must think quickly now, firing at the thing itself has no effect. Instead you must trick it into destroying a large beam above you. It fires in a long line, starting from near it and ending up above it. By positioning yourself in the right place it will fire at the beam. A few hits destroy it, bringing it crashing down and in turn setting of a chain reaction. On foot you must get away, you go through some more of the factory while everything collapses behind you. Eventually you come to another dead end. Below you is a huge hole, going on for seemingly every. Around the sides of this hole are metallic rings, like the ones you have seen previously in the teleporters, well there is only one thing for it! You jump down. For a while you fall, and then you hear the teleport sound.
First you see the universe from what must be millions of miles away, and then you are looking down on earth. Next you are put in Dr Breen’s office again, he is talking to the “Benefactor” like in hl2, saying how Gordon Freeman has been spotted again. Next you are back in that huge yellow flame going up into the sky, then back in Dr Breen’s office, this time is asking Freeman “You have destroyed so much, yet is there anything you have actually created?”
You come to a stop in a street where some resistance members are doing battle with a Strider.

Chapter 8: Decomposition
After finishing off the Strider the resistance members tell you that the Citadel is beginning to fall apart (indeed, you can see some explosions coming from it) so they are trying to get away. You follow them through City 17 until you come to a problem, there is an energy barrier blocking the whole street. There is only one way through, an open manhole that goes down into the sewer.
You walk through the pipe for a while until a couple of combine arrive on what looks like some sort of combine-style Jet Ski. After neutralizing them you take one of their vehicles and off you go! You must now go down further into the water system while being attacked by more on-water combine, stopping only once when you come to some sort of underground canal lock where you must get out on foot and open the gate. Eventually you come to a ladder. You climb up to find City 17 has taken a turn for the worst. In the sky dark clouds are swirling around the top of the Citadel. The combine seem to have almost gone completely, all that left are a few resistance members moping around the almost flattened city. You walk around for a while until you meet the person who had greeted you as a friend when you got back to City 17. At the same time a massive bang come from the citadel and a shockwave passes over everything, its happening. Slowly and magnificently the Citadel begins to fall. It breaks at the bottom and falls straight towards you, its gets faster and faster as the falling mass comes closer and closer.
Your friend begins to scream-
“Come on, come on, we have to do something, we have to get…”
The tower comes to a sudden halt.
“Away, Mrs. Dixon?”
You turn around to see the G-Man is standing just behind you.
“Indeed it would be a shame to loose you after all you have done, after being such a promising subject. An offer to join my agency is indeed withstanding, though I don’t see you have much choice. You indeed do have my request, Mrs. Dixon, however for the mean time I think you have some more urgent matters to attend to.

it's decent.

a compliment by the way.

uhh...

you realize that the big "benefactor" aliens ARE the Combine, right? What you refer to as the Combine are actually humans modified with biomechanics and made into a sort of Combine-Human mix. So the trans-human arm of the Combine Overwatch (the human mixture's true name) would not be fighting against one of the Combine Advisors (big mealwormy aliens with mechanical arms).
