One thing that makes us gamers go back and back again to play the Singleplayer of games if the difficulty. The way that games handle difficulty is ofter very different. My brother and i were having a discussion about games and difficulty, and he made the point that it very cheep when games just let the enemies "cheat" in order to make the game harder. What he meant by this was games where the difference between easy and hard is the ammount of HP the enemies have, or the ammount of damage they do.

Games like Halo did difficulty pretty well, in that instead of JUST making them stronger and do more damage, they made the AI a lot smarter, which is why so many people replay Halo singleplayer and try to beat it level by level on Heroic and Legendary.

My question today is, do you think that Half-Life 2 can give a replayable SP expierence by not only making the game uber, but by making the difficulty settings vary in AI as well as giving them a "helping hand"

I hate it when people end their message with that. It makes me feel like we're supposed to be your freaking servants and your the king taking a s*** on the people and telling us to eat it.

Metaphorically speaking, of course

Good topic.

Many games increase difficulty by adding more HP's/etc to the enemies, adding more monsters, and limiting the amount of aid you can receive... I personally hate it when they do the two former ones.. it often makes the game unrealistic (realistic being used in the sense of the game's plot here), and less fun.

I enjoy it more when they give you less help, such as limiting the amount of extra health, guns, ammo, etc. It really makes you conserve your ammo and makes you really fight for survival. Every bullet counts, and you are more resourceful as well.

Increaseing the A.I. in each difficulty level would be awesome, but I don't think most games would do that, as having NOT having high AI on the beginning levels would make the game look a lot more stupid to the general public.

I don't know what else they could do to make games more difficult without going to labourous extra programming though..

i'm playing on hard all the way :sniper: .

with halflife they just mad the enemies harder to kill and do more damage.

on halo easy when you met a group of baddies there was usually one elite and they shot inaccurate and slow as. but on legendary there is more of them and they have better shield and shoot faster and do more damage and more accurate but your shield recharges quicker.
oh yeh and the smarter ai thingy.

mmm, sounds tasty... what times supper oh King o' Sh|t??

difficulty changes the HP of enemies in hl2 and also more zombies spawn in each closet (oh sorry that was doom3)...

actually the ultra-hard mode in hl2 is a secret skill level that unlocks when you complete the game, where you only get the alt-fire of the maipulator gun for the whole game....

also when you complete that difficulty uber-hard mode is unlocked, which is where you get a sack of potatoes and a spud gun and are sent off into City 17 backwards....

then....

if you complete that difficulty the game unlocks stealthkiss mode, where you must tip-toe through the levels approaching Combine from the back and giving them a kiss on the cheek. Bonus points are awarded if you manage to pull off a raspberry or slip the tongue....

if you haven't guessed, I have lost my sanity. If you find it please PM me...

Why? I never do with games. I always play on the easiest (or second easiest) then play the next hardest, and keep working my way up. This way I can play the game over and over again right away and not get tired :)

Definitely hard for me.. easy or normal is too easy. I have been playing these things for far too long to even bother with anything but the hard setting.

And I really do hope that Valve make hard "next to impossible" hard...
