Half life 2 and steam

just to clairfy this deal with ati if i just wait for halflife2 to come out can i just enter the activation key on my coupon i got from my video card with my already created account when half life 2 comes out to play it? the other option is to ship my coupon and receipt and a peice of the box to the company but it says 4-6 weeks for delivery...sheesh the game will be 20 dollars by then

I created another account with the hl2 key code when I received mine. I emailed ati/steam with the same question and that's what they told me.

just preorder it and buy it when it comes out you dont want to wait that long. plus if you dowload from steam it can take days to download because of everyone trying to dowload at once you know what i mean

During the preloading phase bandwidth will be capped, but as you don't need the whole cache to play there will still be plenty of time.

If you pre-load right away it will be ready at release because Valve said they would add mor content servers for HL2 and pre-loading will start about a week before it's released.

Why create a new account? Just wait till the game is appears under "Available games" then put your hl2 cd-key in and it will start preloading.
