Half life 2 little problem. Help me please :)

Hello, i have recently baught HL 2 and im currently just on the bit after the little water vehicle part near the begining. For quite a while now in place of my crosshair has been a large Q, at first i thought it meant i had to do something, so i checked my keyboard controls and i couldnt find anything to stop it. So i just assumed after a few or one checkpoint(s) it would go away. However it hasnt so i was wondering if anyone who has had the same problem can help me. Cheers if you can.

Could you get a screenshot? Do you mean that the crosshair is still visible, but it has two arcs around it, because that's an intentional feature activated in the options menu. If not, a screenshot would be helpful.

i think some one had this before, i think its do do with the half-life font file, and because it is damaged/missing half-life uses the next available one it can find and the crosshair happens to be the letter the letter Q.
the 2 font files i ahve got are in the zip (should be attached) place them in the directory:
c: programfiles/valve/steam/steamApps/~your user name~/half-life2/hl2/resource

Hopefully that will work.

Awww nothings working when i go to the directory you told me there isnt even a folder called recources, there is just a file called recources.

I've seen this a few times, i'm not sure but i believe validating your HL2 files always sorts it out and adds the missing font file. Try it.

Open steam
Go to start ---> run
Copy and paste or type this in

steam://validate/220

You should get a progress bar come up validating your HL2 through steam. Once completed, play the game and it should be gone.

Copy and paste the fonts into your Fonts folder.

On Windows 2000 this is: c:\winnt\fonts on XP it's probably c:\windows\fonts.
