Half Life 2 "Loading screen error"

i install half life 2
update half life 2
click play on half life 2
i watch the nice lil introduction thing with the "valve" thing and crap and then im greeted with a image of a blurred city-scape with "Loading..." in the bottom right hand corner. I can still move the cursor and the HDD light is still flashing now and again so it hasn't locked up....but i'm wondering because it's been on this screen for over 45 minutes and counting??

After install, do disk defrag.
Also, Posting your full system spec. would be helpful.

That happened to me with my old computer. I installed the last driver for my video card and then it worked right....
