Hello I have been playing Half Life 2 for some time now and am not sure how to install mods like weapon skins and stuff. I am not sure if I am posting this in the right section so forgive me if its in the wrong category. I have a legit version of HL2 off Steam not a pirated version. If someone could give me easy steps on how to do this it would be much appreciated. Thanks!:cheese:

models, materials, sound folders go in steam/steamapps/accountname/half-life 2/hl2/ folder.

Hey there,

Most mods which are more than just skins or model replacements come as a complete package, they are very easy to install on those cases. It's a simple case of putting the folder you download in the SourceMods folder.

That can be found at X:/ProgramFiles/Steam/steamapps/SourceMods. Most mods you download will come with README files anyway.

I know that Phillip from Planetphillip.com provides installation instructions with all the mods he uploads (which are all singleplayer - try Research and Development). You can find pretty much every mod for Source through moddb.com

Thanks for your help but the models will not show in game. For example I am trying to install a skin to make the shotgun look like a spas 12. I take the folder containing the contents of the skin and drop it into the steamapps folder yet the shotgun still looks the same. What am I doing wrong?

Talking about skins, like I said you need to put the folders like "models" and "materials" into your halflife 2/hl2 directory.

If there is no models/materials folders in your mod, then you may need to find out where each file goes by looking at the readme, which is no doubt included.

Ok well after a day of tinkering with the folders, it turns out I made the materials, models, and sounds folder in the wrong spot. After I fixed that I installed my skin and voila! I'm now blowing away Combine soldiers with a Spas 12!:D Thanks for your help though I apprecitate it.:)
