half life 2 new player

Hi ,can anyone please tell me how to play the game, I know the controls etc; but how do i get out of Point Insertion, I just keep on getting beat up by all those guards. I never played these sort of games before, by the way its on my pc im trying to play, Just bought the Orange Box. Thank You. Denis Murphy.

They'll give you hints for getting through most of the game, although it's a lot of fun figuring it out yourself.

Don't walk near the guards, and they won't hurt you. Guns come later In the early section of the game, if you're being shot at, your only option is to run away as the friendlies around you are suggesting that you do.

Half-Life 2 is a linear type of FPS game, that is, if an area looks familiar, you've usually turned back on yourself. Turn round again and push on until something looks new. If you cannot progress in an area, this usually means that there is a some kind of task to perform in order to progress. Characters will often point when you are in a puzzle situation and given enough time, may hint how the puzzle can be solved. Half-Life 2 is particularly big on 'Physics puzzles', see-saws to be weighted down, boxes to be stacked to climb-upon, that kind of thing.

Don't fall back on walkthroughs too much. Games are meant to be played, not read.

There's a walkthrough for Half Life 2? What does it say? Go in the only direction you can go in and shoot the enemies and when confronted by obvious physics puzzle, do obvious thing.
