Half Life 2 - removing red screen when you die, and third-person view upon death?

Hi all, is there a quick way to remove the thing where if you die your screen goes completely red? Sometimes I want to look at the scenery if I land somewhere cool.

PS: I saw a half life 2 video where when you died, you saw a 3rd person view of your character. What mod is this?
