Is it just me or is the real title of HL 2 really Half-Life squared?
In all the official logos, the 2 is superscript indicating squared. Did they do that just for looks?

Its called half life 2. What if it is squared? Who cares?..

This all sounds familliar... Wasn't this joked about on that IGN Livewire interview with Doug Lombardi?

Lol,

didn't know about that

Also, is the max resolution squared also?
That would be cool since HL's max res was 1280*1024

Indeed it was.

Doug said they decided to ditch a subtitle and just call it half life (superscript) 2

lol

just a thought but no reality in it.

what do you think the max res will be?

The same as all other new games.

So ... big? I think the upper limit will be far beyond most PC's capabilities (as ever)
I rather like the superscript design for sequels - fortunately it hasn't been overused ... yet :)
(give it 6 months)

[ps. Hazar - how *do* you manage to drag up such old threads (obviosuly not this one, amazingly)? Is it like some kind of weird divine ability?]

Lol

Didn't know I did

This is my third day on these forums.
(The best related to Half-Life)

Well seeing as the mods haven't noticed - you've done it at least twice - posts from the last two weeks are best if you don't want to get flamed :)
I'm sure the mods will be here in droves to thank u for that last comment tho ... and i'm not joking! :P

Yer what?

Haha

I was just commenting on topics I found interesting

Ooooh, easy mistake! Really, ur gonna get flamed if u get more 6 month old topics (make sure u search for newer ones first, eg that Far Cry one)

Acutally have life Squared would not work.. Because
Halflife 1 X Halflife 1 = Halflife 1
Halflife is a variable
so yoru really timesing 1.
Just like 1 squared is 1. So this cannot be mathimatically.

*bangs head against wall*

Being a designer, I assure you that the 'squared' thing is purely aesthetical and nothing else. I thought it was a rather cunning way of adapting the original Half-life logo, keeping the recognised lambda sign and bringing in the 2. Also ties in nicely with the theme of science and formula's.

So let me get this straight... You're not allowed to post topics that have been discussed before, but then you're not allowed to post in topics that are more than a week or two old.

So if somebody has something new to bring to the table in a discussion... what, they're just not allowed?

Hmmm... Good way to kill off a forum. Notice the intensely high quality of the new threads lately.

*sigh*

drop the 1 on the half-life variable, anything times 1 is itself, so it isn't important.

Halflife * Halflife = Halflife^2 reguardless of the value of Halflife

Halflife * Halflife * Halfife = Halflife^3

The point of the whole "squared" thing is to keep in touch with that whole physics and math theme... "Half-Life," "Opposing Force," "Blue Shift," and "Decay" are all physics terms. The "squared" is implying a mathematical equation; and math is the basis of physics.

Half-Life times x multiplied by the cotangent root of ...wait this thread is already rather spammy.

My thoughts exactly ... some people need to revise their maths, methinks :)

So Half-Life <subscript> 2 is in fact, a Quarter-Life, which leads me to the conclusion that this is in fact a prequel and due to time displacement anomaly the people in Half-Life <subscript> 2 remember Black Mesa and the Combine have travelled backwards in time.

Then again, the above wouldn't work if the value of Half-Life isn't 0.5. So ignore the above =)

You're an idiot Mortiz. For one it's Half-Life SUPERSCRIPT. And for another, subscript indicates number of molecules in chemistry.

Basically, the superscript was added for aesthetic value just like RoguePsi said.

Close the thread if you wish moderators.

Look, I said try not to drag up old threads in my advice to you, not go and flame people for saying something u disagree with! :P Plus the mods choose whether this stays or goes, report it if you must ...
Anyways, yes it's superscript, he made a small mistake :)

lol, you guys may think we're retarded but it's actually easier than you think to forget to close threads :p

We're hopefully going to be making a hack where if a moderator types the word CLOSED at the end of a thread it will actually automatically close it. :D

Closed.

We forgive you ComradeBadger :)

Just thought I'd add. The guidelines for not posting in an old thread require you guys to use your own discretion but still may be closed by a moderator if we think

a) the thread was brought up to add confusion (such as May 2003 threads being kicked up that have the title New Screens!)

b) the thread was kicked up for spam purposes

c) if the post used to kick the topic up is irrelevant or off topic.

Generally we recommend that it'd be better to create a new thread than to kick up a thread that hasn't been posted in for approximately two months. Most discussions are dead after then any way.
