HalfLife 2 Graphical glitches/referenced memory error fixed!! I can play now!!

Hi everyone, I just wanted to let all of you know that I have found at least 1 way to resolve the graphic glitches/wireframes and referenced memory error -- I uninstalled steam, and completely downloaded steam/HL2 clean (after I also removed the valve registry folder) -- and removed my ATI drivers, ran driverclean, and reinstalled HL2 and video driver (4.11's) -- it works great now!!! No glitches, great framerates, and DAMN, it's beutiful!!!

To all who helped and advised, thank you... You are the reason that I joined this forum.

Well goodby for now... I hear city 17 calling me, and I won't be back tonight. TIme to wake up and smell the asssshes!

I am seeing this as well and am re-downloading the files now we'll see how it goes - did you ever isolate the problem? was it a corrupted file on download?

I was never able to isolate a particular cfg adn the one everyone suggested I redownload did not work, so I ripped out ALL steam/valve content, and started from scratch. Imo, thsi would probably work for you, but I would start the download and go to bed... much more fun than sitting at your computer going cmon damint I want to play!! (and not knowing the whole time if this would fix the problem). Good Luck.

what exactly are the graphical glitches and wireframes you are referring to? when I play the game every now and then it kind of "lags" and then goes on. it's like 1 second of choppiness then goes bac to normal. happens on some big firefights always.

is this wat you are talking about, cuz i would really love to fix it

what I was seeing is clear rectangles with white outlines and a diagnol white line through the middle - on the loading screen i saw this for all the grass in the courtyard - there was no grass just lots of white boxes heh - as if the texture never loaded. I was able to fix it by using a store bought version and like MajorPayne said totally reinstalling everything steam. (luckily my GF decided she wanted to buy her own copy from the store and saved my butt from redownloading )

wouldn't ya know though I got an error on the CD install process but removing steam once again fixed that as well - all this after numerous purchase and login problems with steam heh. I think I literally hit every bug there has been a thread about today on the forums but now that I am playing I am pleased so it IS doable people! anyways what your talking about is really just a ram/gfx card thing i think - your seeing it load the textures from ram to gfx I am guessing i get it too but I am not sure there is much you can do about it except upgrade your system or lower your settings.

I think I literally hit every bug there has been a thread about today on the forums but now that I am playing I am pleased

Yeah, I kinda felt like I hit em all too ;( , but I figured if I could get mine fixed, maybe I could save someone else the hair pullin too (since even Erik at Valve had not been able to suggest a fix for me, although he was working on it). And DAMN is this game worth it!!!

And thanks for the beer lostpacket!! I will drink it here at work (under my desk of course)
