I installed Hammer today and configured it for Hl2:EP2. I noticed that they added a few features to it. In the view menu, they now have 3D Lighting Preview and 3D Ray-Traced preview. However, i cant get them to work. Whenever i turn on the lighting preview, everything just goes black (yes, i have lights in the map). I have searched around the net but it seems like no one even knows about these features.

Anyone know how to use them? This will greatly improve mapping with the source engine. I hate having to compile just to see if a light is ok.

EDIT:

How embarrassing, turns out it did work but my lights were just too weak to be seen. How do i increase the brightness?

If I remember correctly it's the Color property in the entity. The first 3 numbers are RGB value followed by intensity value.

Thanks for that. Although now i have another problem. The preview light in hammer is way darker than it actually is ingame, in which it is much brighter. I thought the whole purpose of a lighting preview was to show what the light would be ingame?

What am i doing wrong here?

it's not your fault. lightning preview in hammer is useless.

Yep, don't use it. Just keep mapping. After a while, you end up with a good feel for lighting so that you don't need to compile to know how it'll look.

I wouldn't even enable more then texture preview. Hammer is crashy enough!
