Just wondering whats happening with that? Wasn't there some talk about it a while ago?

Wasn't there a face-animating tool released recently? Or was that just the XSI release - I can't seem to find the Gman in the XSI download anywhere.

no it wasnt, XSI was not the first stage of the SDK it was purely softimage related, the SDK is one single package and we haven't been given a release date for it. We have heard it will be out soon, but soon seems to be a bit of a weird word with valve. I think at E3 they shall release it, and demonstrate it being used, but thats just my optimism and not based on any real fact.

Ah. ok. I could have sworn there was a facial animator thing released. Oh well.

A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, they announced XSI would be included in the SDK. It came out before the SDK, therefore, it is the first stage of the SDK release :)

hmmm... you have a point, but then saying that it was presumed it would come in the SDK whereas the softimage thing just got released through Softimage.

I get the feeling it could well have been some way to drum up business for themselves bearing in mind they probably planned to release their software last year but due to the delay couldn't.

I hate not be optimistic but i am slightly dubious.
I'm gonna email gabe and not get a reply now.

Well its official, the sdk release is ongoing, meaning that they will add stuff on to it from time to time

Some mod teams (CS, DOD, possibly Sven Co-op) already have the full SDK.

CS and DoD are owned and operated by VALVe now, so they undoutedly have access to much more than the SDK

As for Sven Co-Op, last I heard, they don't have the SDK.. could've changed by now, though

there is no need yet for the SDK either, I would release it 1 month before the HL2 release
