HDR Optional ?

Yep definatly optional, i assume it would appear as an option as it does in most of the source games now wouldn't it ?

Yeah it was confirmed months ago.

Im playing at mimimum settings anyway (my naff 9550SE :() good job it's optional

heh i wonder if hdr is the least the source engine could do. or can it even handle better details resolutions and textures ?
they already confirmed they will use the source engine for hl3 , but will they use even better graphics for it and put it in a new shape or will it just look like hl2 just with diffrent levels ....
i hope they redesign every model and just everything for it and rechange the alien models back to their origins .

Think about it. There is only one thing holding Valve back from producing textures and models that are of "high quality" and that is the gamer's own computing power. Valve designs their games with a three year threshold whereby any person with a computer from 3 years ago should be able to play their games comfortably.
So Valve looks at their hardware surveys and finds that 60% of people are still running on the 9800xt generation, thus they will aim to make the game playable on that hardware so that it is more available to the casual gamer.
The advantages of Source are that it can be easily upgraded to included more technology such as soft shadowing, HDR and any other technology that comes along.
HDR is just one step along the "roadmap" of upgrading Source.

wow , i didnt know ... just a pity they cannot bring it to half-life2 anymore :( but thank god , my old system could handle hl2 with middle settings .

Can you turn off good graphics in Lost Coast? :O

VALVe has said that Lost Coast would only become avablie to those who have hig-end comps. I belive they have changed their mind tough, since DoDs have the option to turn it of.

I e-mailed Valve like a year ago, asking if it's possible to implement real-time lighting and shadowing, something a'la Doom3 or UE3.0 - the answer was "yes".
It seems the Source Engine is a very cool creature - it's possible to add new technology easily.

Valve said long ago (I think it's somewhere in the Valve information thread) that it's going to be possible to download higher quality content for Half-Life 2 through Steam - like when you have a high-end computer, you could be able to download 1024x1024 textures instead of 512x512 or models with more polycounts.

I have a Radeon 9800 pro and I run it fine with everything high except anti-aliasing and anisotropic.

Yes you can turn off HDR in Lost Coast. Now next question?

If you want some High resoultiuon stuff look here.. http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/HalfLife_2_FaceFactorys_High_Res_Pack;49499

Alyx looks terrible with those textures. They´ve seriously porned her up - not the way to go...

The Mossman in that skin-set is the stuff of nightmares. That thing still scares the hell out of me
