thats a very nice go at the head...i just have a few problems with the way its textured the textures seem to be really reallly blurry like it ju the base there are no small subtle deatures jsut the basic skin color variations. it needs a bit of noise some pores , veins up to an extent, a beard maybe and a few spots here and there, also the way tyou are shading the face seems a bit weird coz its brown in the dar areas where as a real face is black in the shadowing or maybe its something else:S.. i dont recomend painting shaded detail for hl2.
btw i was looking at your previous bost and that ww2 mod was pretty impresive did it materialise?
oh and here are some of the things im talking about ..just making a small reference to my work the colors i used arent so great but get the idea

I'm just starting on the texture so i haven't had the time to flesh out the details yet. The shaded parts need to be more monochromatic but it doesn't work well after i put on a layer to add some color. I start out with a black and white image and focus on shading and details, then color using layers.

The ww2 mod was shafted after i got buried between schoolwork and personal problems and died after i formated my hard drive.
I might revive it on the hl2 engine but it won't be too soon.

thats awesome theres something i noticed with the mouth in the corners. i duno if thats the texture or the model. it aint very noticeable. mindless moder thats disgusting lol.
 
come to think of it might head thing isnt awfully great either :P ..
nice update ..well if ur interested in doing a superquick ww2 mod throw me a line id like to be a part of it.

Unwrapping in max is a pain.

yeh definetly some weird shit with the teeth. read the sdk wiki coz i think when you export the model u select the teeth but not the inside mouth. and deffinetly not the eyes. p.s i would be interested in doing some animations for you mod.
 
The teeth are only for normal mapping purposes along with the ears. I will optimize the model when i'm finished with the skin.
Not sure when it comes to importing models into half-life 2 but i think effects such as specularity are defined in the qc script and do not require the model to be seperated in order to be imported.
 
Hum... you will optimize the model when you'll be done skinning? Something's wrong in the order...

The teeth are for normal mapping purpose? So what is the in game model and the model used for normal mapping?

Planning to do an alpha map to deal with the hair. Experimenting with the structure...

The normal map will contain the meshsmoothed version along with some added details such as the ears.
 
ah, you're the WW2 mod in 10 days dude. I was sad to see that that didn't pull through.

This is my first experience using opacity maps and i think it turned out decent although the hair texture on it isn't too pretty.

I think the teeth look wrong because they aren't actually shaped like a real life skull's would. They need to be curved around in that jaw shape rather than around the edge of the lips.

If i'm wrong and you've done that, sorry heheh... i'd advise shapping them more that way.
 
They are infact curved like a real skull, however their proportions are horrible and don't resemble real teeth. I've decided to just delete them. The final model won't have geometrical normal mapped teeth.
