Help! HL2 disc won`t read in my DVD- RW drive....

I`ve jsut bought HL2 , following the box instructions , i tried to acces it by right clicking my CD drive and choosing open/explore but the disc appears blank , no files are shwn at all.

I called tech support who said it is something to do with the anti piracy feature. so far i have done the following on their advice , to no avail :

1)looked for a new driver for the DVD drive (I`m using a TEAC CD-w224e DVD RW drive ) there do not seem to be any new drivers for this.
2)made sure i have no burning/ripping software
3)no keygens or anything like that
4)turned off norton anti-virus
5)adjusted the DMA setting to PIO only on the primary and secondary IDE channels

the CD is still blank ! I`m dying to play this game , please help ! :bounce:

Does your dvd drive work? Try other dvds.

sorry - should have mentioned that , the drive works fine with all other games , music cds etc ..... this is driving me mad ! thanks for the reply .

Sorry but you're boned.

Well known fact that a large portion of DVD drives just don't work with some games. BF2 dvd might install fine on your drive, but then HL2 is borked. Some games just don't work with some drives.

I say return it and get the CD version. I try to get the CD version of all games, just for the sake of safety.

If he lives in Europe, he's stuck with the DVD version. However, you could return to the store and try to get a new disc.
