Hello, Newbie "intheleupp" here,

I have a Dell Dimension 8200, P4 1.8ghz, 256mb, with nVidia GeForce2 MX/MX 400 and DX9.0.

I used to be able to play HL2 (and HALO2) on my system, but not for long. I have gotten errors that DirectDraw isn't working, but DXDIAG says it is. I used to have DIRECT 3D, but now DXDIAG says I dont.

Any help?

GeForce 2 MX... I don't think you should be bothering anymore about not being able to play the games, since you were not even supposed to in the first place.

lol why are you saying hes not suppose to play games??? also you can probably fix your problem by reinstalling a video driver or direct 9.0c

A GeForce 2 MX really won't play much at all, Dell designed that PC for Office work, not to play games.

To play half life 2, you'll need a video card with at least 128MB of RAM on it, you will also need some more RAM, 265MB will run the game, but you'd be far better off with another 256MB.

Oops, you're right "hungryduck" and "dog", I only have Halo 1. I don't know where I got the "2" from.
Thanks "Shodan" and "AntiAnto". That explains things. I really don't know how I was able to play it in the first place. But, I played it for about a month, didn't play it for a couple of months, and then I could never sign back on again. Halo played for awhile again. Don't know what happened, but then after a couple of days I started getting errors again.
Any favorite cards to suggest without blowing my pocketbook?

The "6600 GT" will do you lots of "good", if you know what I "mean".

yup yup! :)

I took Halo and call of duty to my friends house to day and he has about the same setup only with a shittier graphics card provided by dell. Call of duty plays fine on close to the highest settings and Halo... well the textures are so low that you cant even see the flash light when you turn it on. the people at Dell are such ass holes! I got my friend in to playing FPS's on a PC opposed to Xbox by letting him borrow half-life and he absoltely loved it considering he loved FPS on Xbox. so i was like... you should get a better graphics card and some more ram and you'll pertty much be set with a decent gaming rig. The I found out that you cant open up a Dell computer with out voiding the waranty... i heard there is like a little green lock box over where the AGP and PCI cards go or some thing like that... Probably a load of bull shit but i wouldnt want to **** up my friends PC and be out 500 bux!
