after i finally got HL2 and steam installed and registered and got it to work in offline mode, i started it up at the recommended settings, 1152 res and high settings on the textures etc and the game is SOOO choppy - but even on the lowest possible settings 640 res etc the game is still WAY choppy, and even weirder when i tap the "forward" button you move foward and dont stop until you hit a wall, and its affecting my other games two, i tried deus ex 1 and am getting the same effect, hitting forward and you slide forward, theres no "movement bob" like there should be in deus ex 1, you just slide - another weird thing is that all the logos during the game show up as HALF-LIFE' instead of HALF-LIFE2 anyone know why this is happening? also when dragging icons across my desktop or in folders theres a big lag, choppy almost - also when working in photoshop i get a lagginess - i have a fairly new dell 4600, with the ati card 9600 xt pro or something (one of the ones offered with the free HL2 giveaway) 1 gb of ram, anyway it should have no problem running the game, at least I shouldnt be having all the problem I am now - this game is pissing me off! so i downloaded 4 or 5 misc patches for different things that might be wrong with it, hopefully one or all will work so it will fix all this shit, and valve better release a patch asap, bastards...
